1.
Situation #1: I had a bride and groom cancel a wedding. I called 2 weeks before the event and sent emails. They didn't respond until 5 days before where he said I should talk to her, that the wedding would take place eventually. I called her and she never responded. I emailed her and then them both, where she finally wrote back and confirmed it was canceled.
Here's the thing....She said it's best if she called and explained, but that they still want to use me...even though she said she freaked out over money and marriage. Not sure how they plan to use me or if they're even really getting married. She still hasn't called and the wedding was to take place 4 weeks ago.

I see them on Facebook and it says they're engaged and they do chat back and forth, but no word (nor has there ever been on there) of a wedding. They paid in full and I really want this resolved. How much time should I give them? Do I push it or let it go? I want to cover myself legally.

Situation 2: I photographed an event where the client paid a retainer, plus more. I was hired at the last minute and even though I read on here 'don't collect old money' I told him he could pay the balance 2 weeks after the event. I thought I'd give him time. We shot the event and he never paid the balance. He called demanding the pictures and I reminded him that the balance was first due. He said he didn't do business that way and I reminded him he signed a contract. We went back and forth and he said he would send it. He never did and has never responded to emails.

I can't believe he paid that much money to have pictures taken and doesn't want the images. They turned out beautifully, but he hasn't even seen them, nor has he asked to do so again. Culturally, I think he's irritated that I stood up to him (though I was incredibly polite, but firm). Anyway...how do I resolve this?

Thanks!

 2.
I need some tips on photographing the B&G when the bride is larger than the groom. She's not overweight necessarily, just bigger in general. Large shoulders and head, etc. I noticed when Tom Cruise is photographed they always show him with Katy Holmes (who is taller) walking behind him. I think he does this because it gives the illusion of him being taller. When I had the couple sit for engagement pictures, she was still taller and larger than he was.
How can I arrange them in the most flattering of ways, whether they are sitting or standing? She is very, very self-conscious of this. Also, how would I do headshots or 3/4 shots where her head looks smaller?
One more thing....photographing just her in a flattering way. I know I need to angle one shoulder away from the camera, but what else can I do?
Thanks for the help!

 3.
I've been asked by a local artist to photograph her work. She wants the images for flyers, her website and for prints on canvas. It's 20 pieces. I have no idea what to charge for such work. Should I consider the fact that my photograph of her artwork will be placed onto canvasses and sold repeatedly? I understand it's her work that is selling, not mine. Has anyone ever photographed artwork before? T

Thanks

 4.
Ok, so I think I know the answering and that's why I'm hesitating, but I thought I'd ask here anyway.
I posted a new wedding to my blog on Facebook and sent a link to the bride. She emailed back and is thrilled with the images. I'm wishing she would have said such glowing words on my blog and Facebool wall, but hasn't said anything.

I'm thinking it would be inappropriate to ask her to give a shot-out on my blog and Facebook for marketing purposes, but a friend says I should ask.

Do you have something in your contract that mentions using comments for marketing or do you ever outright ask if they would give a recommendation on your blog/site or Facebook?

Thanks for the help!

 5.
I wanted to find out how some of you pay your second shooters. I've checked around and pay mine the standard hourly rate for our area. Do you all pay an hourly fee or a flat fee? Do you have them ride with you to the event or do you pay mileage?

For an event that is more than 2 hrs away do you pay more for time away? Meaning, if you have a hotel stay and it's a 2 day obligation because of travel, do you pay extra for time?
Thanks!

 6.
I was hired to do a last minute wedding. The paid some to book the date and the remaining balance was due yesterday. The wedding is on Saturday. Normally I have clients pay the balance 30 days before the event, but this was a last minute situation and I wanted to give them time.
So, do I simply send an email or call or wait and say something later? How do you tactfully remind them that the payment is due?

Thanks

 7.
Do vendors (specifically Caterers) normally ask for the photography schedule for the wedding day? I've never had one ask until now.

Just curious as to whether I should have contacted her first or how it normally works.
Thanks!

 8.
I recently bought a 7D as well as some faster Sandisk CF cards (16GB/60MB). I also bought a few 8GB/30MB Sandisk cards. My card reader is not not reading the cards.

Do I need a faster reader or is there something I should be doing to these cards before loading them? I currently use a Dynex Card reader.

Thanks!

 9.
You know I think I will keep it at 30 days. Like I said, the father of the bride was questioning this and I'm thinking he was stalling. She said he was in Italy and had to wait for him to return, then she said he forgot to send it. So 30 days gives time for people who stall or people who truly forget, etc. Thanks again!

 10.
I meant a 3rd person (not 4 people total) following along and helping out. I actually know of many photogs that bring a 3-4 person team. I would only allow this at a larger event.

 11.
Thanks Katrin, Marios and Jose for the info!
I like the second shooter being close by for the family shots, but I think I need to have her turn so she can be there, but shoot candids while I do the formals. At this point she's shooting too many of the same images I have, which I know is my fault in the sense that I need to give her clear directions. I have a few others wanting to tag along as a 3rd assistant and I think I may pay them something. Local photogs tend to either pay the assistant OR let them use their images for their portfolio. I've been paying and letting them use their images, which I think I'll keep doing!
Thanks again!

 12.
Thanks Tina for the info! I appreciate it. I like the idea of offering it at a discounted price at first. I think I'm going to get a few sample albums made int he next couple of months.

 13.
Thanks Bob. Your 1-4 answers were at least polite. Ok, I will be more direct next time. However, I thought it would have been easy for someone to say "if they have experience I do this" or "if they are new and less experienced, then I do this" and so on.

 14.
I guess I"m saying I don't want to sell prints, but, of course I will in order to offer what local photographers offer. I'd like to charge more and need to give them more for their money, besides great edited pictures and a cd. I know what they offer in this area and I hope to do the same in all aspects of my business. I'm open to purchasing album samples and giving it a try.
I am a licensed business and I belong to the local professional photography association, have recently begun networking with local photographers and am obviously new to the business side of photography. No, I haven't taken business or marketing classes, but have taken marketing seminars for photography. I'm learning and that's why I'm asking and sure, I'm open to some business classes. : ) Who else has taken one? Any recommendations as to an online course maybe?
I will be a part-timer until my children are grown, as my husband is a professor who works various hours (night & day). I work and learn when I am able, but that doesn't mean I want to offer less (in any aspect).
