  1. On the 10D I'd stick with the EX series for FEL and wireless control. I used both 420 and 550 when I had the 10Ds and settled on the 420 for 99% of wedding work. For my style I found it powerful enough and very consitent, much more than the 550. It's also smaller/lighter and it has much better battery performance than the 550. However, if you need full manual power control and you shoot outdoor in bright light a lot you may want the more powerful 550/580. The 420 can struggle with large group shots outdoor in bright midday sun.
  2. Nice angle/perspective! Exposure wise I'd guess it was probably fairly underexposed originally, probably average or matrix meterd. It looks like the faces were masked and the levels brought up in PS, the colours are fun but a bit funky!

  3. The size of your rig does make a difference in the way guests view you and give you your "work space". Depending on the venue and shooting goals you may want to stand out or blend in.

A funny aside, once the priest and the groom are stnading in the doorway of the church waiting for the guests and I walk up with a 10D w grip, 16-35, flash around my neck and another 10D w grip and a 70-200 on my shoulder...and they BOTH say at once "Oh I have a 10D as well"...I felt weak for a moment!!! Turns out they were both avid photographers!

  4. I use the ST-E2 with 2-3 420EXs. In small/medium rooms it will work well and reliably. In large wedding halls you'll have to mind the direction of the sensors and test it a few times before the "action" starts. Outside in sunny/bright overcast conditions the setup is not reliable. If you're doing formals and all units are within 10-15' of eachother it will work but not 100% of the time. If you have to depend on the setup 100% of the time at every wedding I'd go with radio-slaves and some Sunpack/Vivitar combo (or 550EXs if you have the $$$)
