Experience is necessary as is owning your own gear.
I need someone who is technically excellent, reliable, takes initiative and has a "can do" attitude.
BTW, you will need reliable transportation also.
Please message me with a link to your portfolio and experience/references if you are interested.

Chimera,

Personally, I ask the bride and groom before the wedding to create a list of which pictures they want and send me that list. This way, they have time to think about what they really want and not forget something in the craziness of the wedding day.

I find that a lot of my clients don't want to spend time taking endless combinations of group photos when they'd rather be mingling with their guests and enjoying their reception. Then again, I have also had clients give me a list several pages long.

It's all about tailoring your service to your clients' wishes...if you tell them "we will take whatever pictures you want and not force you to spend any extra time taking pictures you don't want," they love you all the more.

I am a wedding photographer and recently purchased the 20D and the
580ex. I have shot two weddings with this set-up so far. I have been
impressed with how long the batteries last in the 580 (14 bridesmaids
in fairly quick succession with no missed shots due to recycle time),
however, the shots of the flowergirls and the bride and her father
walking down the aisle at the same wedding were underexposed. I shot
from the same distance, and would have assumed that the flash was
lagging from so many shots in succession, but another problem at the
same ceremony suggests it may not have been. As the ceremony ended, I
began photographing the bride and groom walking back up the aisle.
All of the shots (there were 4 or 5) were underexposed...I also
photographed all of the bridesmaids walking back up the aisle just
after the bride and groom, and had no underexposure. This same thing
happened at the second wedding where there were only 5 bridesmaids. I
have made sure to use fresh batteries at the beginning of both the
processional and recessional, so I'm having trouble understanding
what the problem is. Does anyone have any thoughts on what is causing
this problem and how to fix it?
Shooting Wedding, Jeweler wants photos

Unless the jeweler is asking for a full commercial style shoot on the wedding day (doesn't sound like it), why not eat the
cost of emailing a few photos (I'm assuming you would be taking photos of the bride's jewelry anyway) with your website
on them for their blog ($0) and start developing a relationship with this jeweler?
Considering that the jeweler will be the first wedding related vendor that a newly engaged/about to be engaged couple will
meet, I can't help but think that they could be an awesome source of referrals. If you play your cards right you could get
thousands of dollars in referral business from just playing nice with other vendors...kinda beats any money you *might*
make from selling usage rights or prints in the short term.
Keep the big picture in mind. Just my two cents worth.
