  1. I used the heck out of my 18-200 on the D200, D300, and D7100. Don't ask what I paid for it after being on the waiting list for it. It was a very good one. No zoom creep even.

Went to FF and sold it to help fund the new FX 70-300 which is the only lens I ever bought new since the 18-200. If I was a DX shooter I'd never sell my 18-200. They don't bring much money at all these days. It has almost as much bad press as the 24-120 which are also very affordable now used.

  2. Clearly they don't care. Some of the serial numbers will become known by Nikon corporate, lots more could be discovered with a little more sophisticated investigation.

The responsible party could be dealt with by Nikon if they wanted to.

  3. My understanding is that Nikon actively sells to grey market sellers. It helps them to clear out inventory, and the after sale support is cheaper.

Surprised their legit importers don't complain. Most mfgrs protect their wholesaler chain.

  4. In my area, I often see D850's and even Z6's offered at half current going prices (on offerup / craigslist). Obvious scams but I've quit reporting them since they stay up continuously.
  5. I'm having great luck with my en el3's, even a couple (black ones without the extra monitoring pin) that I got with a craigslist D100.

Got 7 total from my D90 & D7100 days. YmmV

  6. 28-80mm G Nikon 3.3-5.6 is a terrific lens for taking pictures, not so much as to looks or build quality.

I use mine more than I will admit to.

  7. my

12-28mm Tokina SD IF AT-X DX PRO

is excellent, but f/4 and nowhere as good as what you have now at 16+mm

12 is a lot wider of course

as good at 24mm as my Sigma 24/f2.8 prime

used the Tokina wide zoom a lot on my D7100

but I'm now burned out on "wide" but need to play with it some more and get back into it.

  8. I just bought a Korea Kia made near Atlanta, GA. Only thing I wish for is an understandable manual when studying some of the more esoteric features.

Now that robots do the manufacturing of most everything, even a Tesla factory can spring up anywhere and spit cars out of a tent.

I recently took a tour of the local Toyota truck factory and the automation and robots are not to be believed.

For some reason I prefer the look and feel of my old Nikon 'made in Japan' lenses, but that is only because they are made of metal. Today's plastic ones are probably lots better optically.

  9. EBAY: if seller 'offers returns' - it is safe and smooth, more time consuming and several careful steps to follow to return something not as advertised...I bought from a scammer but eventually got refunded, including shipping charges.

I've taken a beating on selling some things on ebay auctions when I was impatient to sell something.

Some of the current sophisticated scams on ebay now limit my purchases there to items less than $200. I have a low risk tolerance.

Fredmiranda: I've bought several excellent items, but paid KEH prices. Some well off folks on there who buy everything new, play with them for a while and then sell them on.

KEH and Adorama: I've had good luck with both, but no bargains

Craigslist and OfferUP: Too much work any more for me to sift through the crazy high prices on most photographic things, a good bargain will pop up every month or two. The owners clearly do not check the going prices on ebay before advertising their items.

The pawn shops are clogging up the listings with some real junk and I've had a couple of sellers not show for the sale and then go silent. I did buy a D100 / Tamron 90mm macro combo along with a big box of other Nikon goodies for $30 on there last year. I've averaged two purchases per year for the last 8 years on the CL/OU sites.
