Let me know what you like/don't like with this macro.

I like this image. The foreground and background and such that you are drawn right to her face. Nice composition. I like the strong and even catch lights; I wish I could achieve that consistantly.
I have found that the best pictures of children are when you capture them in the mood they are in, rather than trying to pose them. The natural expressions and postures are very difficult to achieve by directing a child.
Good job.

His right shoulder blends too much into the background. A slightly longer exposure to blur his hand could have been interesting.

I am looking for opinions about cropping of this photo. Should I
leave the open space to the right of the tree? Or, is the open
space distracting from the tree and in need of being cropped?

This is a shot I tried for in my studio and am pretty happy with.
Any suggestions for improvement?

From the title of this photo, it looks like the subjects you were trying to capture were two clown fish. The two fish look like they are in pretty good focus, and are probably sharp in the original photo, however, it looks like you almost missed them in this shot. I think a better shot would have had them and their anemone fill more of the frame. (BTW, I did not numerically rate this photo.)

Unfortunately, I could not do much about the background or the
lighting with this one. For the most part I like it, but what about
the background? Does the egret get lost too much?

I just got my 105mm 2.8 macro lens and tried it out for the first
time. I am looking for any comments, especially things I can think
about when setting up shots like this. Also let me know what you
think about this and any of the others in this folder.
TIA,
George

I know Pileated Woodpeckers quite skittish, and that make them hard to shoot, but I have two issues with this image. 1) the branch running across the whole body is distracting. 2) The orientation would probably work better portrait than landscape. At the very least, try to keep the bird out of the exact middle of the composition.
Good catch, focus, and dof.
