Xaivier,
Excellent explanation of overshoot as it applies to the MarkIII problem. (I was an ASIC designer in a previous life :^)
But, wouldn't the 1DsMIII have the same issue? I thought that they both used the same sensor... and therefore the same amplifiers etc. Am I mistaken?
Thanks

I received my 5DMII yesterday and immediately started testing. I too have the black dot issue... as expected. But a couple of things that I found:
You can see it on the LCD screen at full zoom. I think this rules out RAW processing.
I also tested my 1DsMIII and it did not have the problem. This confirms what others have said, it doesn't seem to be the sensor.
So, I'm thinking that we need a solid test performed on a 50D to see if it is the DIGIC 4.
I have listed out the exact test I performed here: http://douglasgoodinphotography.blogspot.com/
Feel free to wail on me if I have been reduntant or completely wrong! :^)
Thanks,
When calibrating my PC's Dell Display, with my Xrite Eye 1, I am able to change
the display's brightness and RGB settings by way of buttons on the display.
When calibrating my Dell Laptop display, with my Xrite Eye 1, I am able to
change the brightness of the display but not the RGB settings.
When calibrating a friend's iMac I found that the iMac had neither brightness
or RGB controls on the display. After a few minutes of pondering we decided to
use the iMac "control panel thingy" to change the brightness.
When I look at the same image on each display there are obvious differences in
saturation and a small differences in brightness.
It seems to me that the lack of brightness control and RGB limits the ability
to properly calibrate a system. Is this true or am I expecting too much?
Are calibrators really only supposed to be used to calibrate your system for
printing?
My goal is to have everyone in our local camera club calibrate thier system so
that the image they see on thier monitor looks the same as the one they see
projected (yes... I need to calibrate the projector also :^)
Thanks for your help!

Yep, that's it. You nailed it! Thanks for taking the time to point me to the improvements section of the 5DMII tech report. And with that we can ignore my request for a test on the 50D. :^)
