Thanks NI, there will probably be a group of 40 people or so, and I'm renting a wide angle for this. The table shots will probably be taken in low light in the ballroom. Just dont want the shots to come out too dark. Thank you much.

Shooting a friends daughters Bat Mitzvah next week and was wondering what
the best setting, apertue and shutter speed, was for my 30D and 580 ex
speedlite to have enough light and DOF in a low light group shot. Should I
use a tripod? Thanks much - J

It would be great if anyone could suggest an affordable set up for portrait
lighting. Soft box, umbrellas, gold reflectors?? Something to start out with
that wont cost an arm and a leg, yet will still bring nice results. I already
have the back drops, cameras, and lenses. Thanks - J

Wow, I respect all the amazing info and help you all have given. Kinda' makes me wish I did have a full frame body, lol.

Thanks for the great advice my fellow photographers, but to have a big group in nice focus, won't it be a challenge at 2.8, concidering the depth of field is like 4 inches? LOL. Maybe I'm wrong, what do you all think?

Thanks to anyone reading this. My 24-70L will not cut it when it comes to a
1.6 crop factor. Need something WIDE, good in low light. Do I even need to
go wider than 16 or 17mm? Thanks

Picked up the olympus stylus 720 today and not sure if I like it. Bad low
light shots and flash seems crappy! I would like to get a slim and sleek very
compact digicam that WILL take good pics indoors with flash as well as
outdoors. Any suggestions? 300-400 $ price range. Thank you soooo much for
any input.

BG-E2 Vertical Battery Grip for Canon EOS 20D/20Da/30D, problem? Was thinking
of getting this vert pak for my 30D, but have seen some reviews about power
shutoff problems during camera rotation. Anyone have these issues, or is it a
hit and miss? Thanks for any help.

Thanks KL, I have heard that the Ice fields are amazing between Banff and Jasper.

Tony thanks for all the great advice! I can't wait

My father and I will be headed to Banff next spring or summer to shoot. I
would love some feedback, from someone who's been, on which month would be
best between may and august. Flowers, wildlife, and some snow caps would be
great. Thank you much.........

would be great thanks................

I can't find how to get to the jpeg sharpening settings on the
30D. I read an article by a pro wildlife photographer saying that
he enjoys the results from the in camera jpeg sharpening level 2 on
the 30D. Yet I can't find this in my manual. Any help would be
GREAT! Thanks

I'm shooting a Bar Mitzvah at the end of this month. Just don't
know what the fair going rate is. It's my first one. I've done
plenty of weddings with my Dad, but don't know if the rates are
similar. If anyone could help me, it would be great, thanks

Thanks for the advice guys

EFS 17-55 2.8 IS or 24-70 2.8L? Just wondering which of these
great lenses would be better for weddings, portraits, and general
walk around. The new lens will go on my 30D 1.6 crop camera. Yet
only the 24-70L will work on my Elan7n 35mm cam, which I only use
for landscape. Any advice would be GREAT! Thank you........Jay

Ok guys, you all got me on my spelling mistake! LOL. Next time I'll make sure I don't post a ? after a night of beer drinking with my bro.. Ha ha! Thanks to the ones that have given advice. Jay

I will be shooting my portraits and weddings with my 30D(when it
comes out). I will stick to 35mm film for landscape. Which lense
would be a better buy for me? The ef 17-40 F4L @ $665.00, or the ef-
s 17-85 F4-5.6 IS @ $525.00(which I can't interchange with my film
cam!)? Thanks greatly for any info to help...... Jay

I'm new in these forums, any new info on 30d's drop date?

I want a good DSLR to shoot my portraits, weddings, and wildlife.
I have decided to stick with film for my lanscape shots. I was very
interested in the 5D, but at 3200 green backs, I won't be left with
money for a great lens or great flash. Also don't know how big of a
problem the vingetting/light fall off is in the 5D, but I don't want
to have to fix lots of pics with photo shop.
So here is what I was thinking, get the 20D, get an ef 24-105 f/4L
IS lens(38-168 on the 20D), which will also work great on my elan
7n. I can also afford a 550ex or 580ex speedlite if I go this
route. Would love some feed back on whether or not this is a good
idea.
Thanks, Jay
(p.s.) Is the AF on the 20D truely THAT BAD?
Low light group shot question, help please
