<p>I use both an M9 with M lenses and a 5D II with R lenses.<br /> While I agree that the M outfit is smaller and lighter, I disagree on that the M system provides highly noticeable superior optical quality; when using top R glass on the 5D II the quality of the images is very high indeed (though I must admit the M9+M lenses produces better files in terms of colour rendition/straight out of the camera).</p>

Stephen is most probably right, 2885XXX...my memory starts failing me...
-
Hi Paul, how are you, long time no speak...
As far as I know, the upgraded MP viewfinder was factory added to the M7 after the 2855XXX
serial number. Almost vertainly, all M7 cameras bearing a serial number from the 2860XXX
and onwards should be factory upgraded.

Actually I went on to the Leica website and I have used the MP a la Carte configurator, and it
looks like the leatherette on my MP resembles very much to what they call saddle leather, a
250 USD-160 GBP add-on option...
mmm...
-
Well, thanks Bill...!
-
-
...and this is how the leatherette looks kike on my recent MP...
-
Bill, please have a look at this...in particular picture 3 and 4.
http://www.photo.net/photodb/folder?folder_id=706975
the leatherette is the same on front and back but it is different (thinner) from my late
production MP.
Do you think it has been replaced or is this a raree model?
Many thanks in advance
-
I know the early production of the current MP was produced with the M6 ISO dial, but did it have also a
different leatherette cover?
I have just realized my early model one has a different leatherette finish compared to my newer production
one.
Am I right or has the leatherette been replaced?

I never ever EVER get it right...how many pixels has the image got to be to show on the page
without the link to the image...?
-
Nels, only joking...!
-
I am just trying to upload an ad, and I never had it so complicated, not even on eBay...
Cannot go ahead unless I put a price in USD dollars, but I am based in the UK and we use
British Pounds...!
-
...and if you bought in the UK you had a deal...I paid GBP 60 for mine...
I think it is more expensive than gold...What's the diopter weight, two grams?
-
Jeff,
what I meant is something else. Of course I do care about the final result myself, but when I
am behind a film camera taking a picture i feel my input is really important, less so when I
know that a post manipulation of the image will correct whatever mistake I may make.
This is nothing to do with film vs digital, both have their high/low points, it is simply my
opinion. I take photographs for fun, I don't make a living out of it, so I feel lucky I can stick to
my beliefs/impressions.
-
I have decided. I am not buying an M8.
I already spend hours sitting in front of my computer and all this PS manipulation work looks
like just too much to bear...With film, that's it, you get the reality. If you use your skills,
whatever limited they can be, you get a nice pic, if you don't you can only blame yourself.
Just my opinion.
I will instead get a nice MP body A la Carte...
-
Andrew, the black chrome MP looks very very nice...and the vulkanite suits it very much so...
Congrats!
PS
I thought I was the only "nutter" (as in passionate about Leica MP...:-) to own three MPs-and
looking for the fourth, a .85 one...but there you go, and I bet there will be other MP fans out
there who own more than one, aren't they...?
-
I meant "some people HAVE PROBABLY USED IT enough to be able to give a fair opinion of its
qualities and "faults" and/or limitations...
sorry...
-
Well, I am not a big fan of digital photography, but I am considering buying an M8.
Main reason being (may be the only one really...) the chance to use my Leica M lenses on a digital body
that will allow me to photograph "more"...
I can consider the RD1/RD1s too but let's stick to the M8 for the time being...
My question goes mainly to M8 owners/users out there. The camera has been now around for a few
months, so some people have not probably used it enough to be able to give a fair opinion of its qualities
and "faults".
I would like to hear what this camera is really like, what's its ease of use like, its reliability (I heard some
horror stories as well as some geat praise of the camera), its computer (I use Mac OSX) compability issues
if any, the actual limitations(if any) of the 1.33 crop factor, and above all, am I going to get something that
will be giving me the same pleasure (and images warmth...) that I get from my M film cameras...?
in a word, and I know you are going to be really honest about this, is it something worth buying now or I'd
be better off buying a digital M later on in time when ALL issues have been resolved and may be a newer
upgraded model will come out...?
Thanks all in advance
Luigi

Rob is right, 11819 11825 11826 and 11816 are optically the same.
All these codes stand obviously for the Summicron-M 50mm f2 (IV version).
-
Gus,
Leica M System: Summicron-M (version I II III and IV-version IV can be tabbed+detachable
lens hood (code 11819 black and 11825 chrome) or latest/current with built-in lens hood,
code 11826 black and 11816 chrome.
Titanium version 11624.
Also, 11619 is the screw mount version.

I like the Leica forum on photo.net...I have fun, I buy the gear I like, I sell it, I trade it, I buy it again, I look
with amusement at how people get into arguments, I learn...
But many times I just wonder how does the person whose name appears on my computer screen as a line I
may click on really looks like besides the image of it that somehow I have made up in my imagination...
what Vinay looks like, and Bill, and Paul, and Trevor and Vivek...

Hello everybody.
Has anybody handled and/or is using Voigtlander lenses on M cameras?
How far are they from the Leica M lenses optical quality, mechanical built and ease of use?
Are you using them because they are far cheaper than Leica M lenses or because they are actually good
performers very close to Leica quality?
And in particular, what's the Ultron 35mm f1.7 like?
Thanks in advance for any input on the subject(s).

B&H $85...?
Gosh...!

The lens hood plastic cover is 14 040. (RRP 20 euros).
