  1. Hello!

Please have your say on these two lenses, considering optical

performance (is there a BIG difference between them?), handling, price

(do you happen to know what would be the price for each?)... Which one

would suit better for portraits to tight headshots?

I might be able to choose between these two, which one to purchase,

and your answers to these questions of mine would help me a lot.

    Thank you, OM lovers.

  2. Hello guys - again.

I posted a question some time ago about my OM2 which was having

shutter speed problems. Eventually I took the camera for a CLA and

check, got it back and it seems the speeds are indeed constant now,

down to about 1/15. The repair man reported an excess of oil (courtesy

of the last CLA, i suppose) which had to be removed, and that he re-

    wired i-don't-know-what inside.

But what intrigues me is the fact that at the chosen speed of 1 sec

(i'm talking ONLY Manual mode in this post), i can actually count

about 3 secs until the shutter closes!

I wonder why it wouldn't work at slow speeds, if it works at higher

    speeds...

So please, if you have an OM2, set it on Manual for me, and set the

speed at 1 second, and fire the shutter a couple of times. Tell me if

it does 1 sec or more..

I'll do a film test myself, but until then i'm curious if my camera is

the only one having this 'illness' or not...

    Thank you!

  3. You made a very good point there, but i'm sure the shutter is the problem. I mean you can tell the difference between the speeds by the sound delay. You can hear it. And my lenses are ok, no problem with those. And as for the auto mode, i don't use it too often, i'm on manual usually.

So afterall, what could be the cause for this? Electric problem? Should i go fishing for an OM1 body?

    Thanks!

  4. Hello guys! I have an OM2(n) bought last year mint, but now I noticed

that the shutter speeds are not precise (anymore?), as they vary

randomly at a given setting. I mean if i set the ss at 1/60, it may

happen that out of 5 exposures one would be overexposed - shutter

going slower, or maybe more than one.

At slower speeds (say 1/15) the variation is even greater, it's hard

to get two identical exposures one after another, although without

much difference between them, but i expect precision from this camera.

Have you ever had troubles with the shutter speed on your OM? Is the

all mechanical OM1 less prone to shutter problems than the OM2?

What could be the cause for this shutter speed problem? And what can

be done to fix it? Can the battery have anything to do with this?

I know i'm asking a lot of questions but please try to answer if you

can, because i really love this camera and i want to understand what's

    happening with it.

    Thank you!

  5. Thank you all very much for your inputs, they are of great help. And I just found today a hasselblad 500cm with the 80mm planar for sale too, but the price is pretty spicy for me, i'd have to sell my Olympus Om Zuiko telezoom 65-200 to get it. I won't ask you about hassy image quality, though! :)

But anyways, it would be too much for me, so that's just for the record.

I'll go inspect the M645 very carefully and maybe put a roll of film through it and if it's ok, i think that would be the choice, although the yashica is simply superb. But I study cinematography so i figure the 645 format would be closer to the ratios i'm used to see the world in.

I'll let you know of my final purchase.

    Thank you all, again!

  6. You're right, I forgot to mention that i intend to use the camera for portraits; I thought about the fixed lens issue and I concluded that an 80mm / min focus 1 meter is good enough for me, so it's not the possibility of changing the lens that bothers me, but, as I said, image quality.

So from what you all have written here (and I thank you so much for it, they are very good advices), it seems that the kievs and somewhat the Mamiyaflex are out of the question... That leaves the Yashica and the M645. (btw, i'm not counting too much on the wide/tele convertors either).

But still, it's not quite clear to me if there's a significant difference between M645 and Yashicamat optics, cause that's what counts for me the most, as i don't need a workhorse camera, just the best option of these for studio studies :)

So please, have your say on the M645 vs Yashica lens, head to head. It would really help me.

    Thank you guys!

  7. Hey guys I need some opinions here, if you please.. I'm a student

wanting to get into MF, and I restricted my search to a couple of

cameras accessible to me both as price and location. So here they are:

    - Yashicamat 124-G with wide and tele convertors, in excellent

    condition

    - Mamiya M645 1000s with the 80mm/f2.8, but rated 7.5/10

    - Mamiyaflex C (or C2, i'm not sure but it's one of the earlier

models), with 3 lenses (wide, standard, tele), looks pretty 'tired'

    - Kiev 60 or 80, rated as 8 or 9/10

First of all i'm interested in image quality, so please let me know

how much of a difference is between them.

For example, are the mamiyaflex lenses much better than the yashica

    one? And so on..

I should also mention that i intend to use the camera mostly in the

studio (it may not be possible to work at high f/stops like f8 or more

too often, and i know that counts in appreciating lens quality).

From my point of view, the yashica is in the best shape, the M645 i

fear it may be too worn (btw, how reliable are they?), the Mamiyaflex

is the most expensive (double of the yashica) and looks antique, and

the Kievs...well...i don't trust the russians.

If any of you out there can help me with any kind of comment or fact

from his experience in working with these cameras, i would be so

    grateful!

Sorry for the long story here :)

    Thanks a lot!
