  1. A previous post about vendor list got me thinking and wondering. How many of you actively approach

vendors about getting on their referral list? If so, what has been your best approach?

    thanks linda

  2. I saw no reason for you not to be accepted- beautiful work- photojournalistic and candid. I

thought your website flowed well. How long ago did you apply? It took about 2 weeks for

me- but i have heard others taking as long as six weeks. hang tough..you should hear from

    them

  3. I was wondering if anyone wanted to share any marketing or advertising tips that have worked for your

business? The best money you ever spent was...?? or some great ideas for getting the word out..

I have been shooting weddings for about 3 years and have received most of my business by word of

mouth- frankly i have been really slow to book for next season- so i am looking to generate more

business and get the word out. I am in the process of updating my site with recent images- you can find

them here at:http://www.sendtoprint.net and my website is http://www.winkphotography.net

Any info would be great appreciated

  4. yes- i am attempting the read the nikon manual along with the manual for the sb800.. its a

daunting task!! to say the least.. maybe i am just too simple minded- can you give me a

breakdown on how to set it up? that is the flash and camera settings to make this work??

  5. Hi

I have a Nikon d200 and 2 sb800- i want to use both the flash units with umbrella's (mounted on stands)

and or a soft box when working with children. ( i do have a photogenic strobe set up) but when working

with children- i would prefer less cords and such to trip over.. insurance .... ya know,.

So- my question is- What equpment do i need to do this- how do i triger the flash units? Do i need the

su- 800 to do this? Has anyone used this set up before- what have the results been? Level of diffuculty?

Also- what brackets/clamps do i need to mount the flash units. As always- your imput is most

    appreciated. Thanks!!

  6. I am in the process of updating my website and am in need of some advice. I have posted about 120

images that need to be edited down a bit and would love to hear your opinions and comments on what to

keep or get rid of or what areas i might need more of. Any critique/ feedback on images is appreciated!

  7. Hi John

Shot there as an assitant earlier this season. Very Beautiful location- lots of great spots-

tough lighting. One thing I might mention- the photographer that i assited with she had to

obtain a permit to shoot out there. Now, we were never asked for it- or talked to us- but i

would suggest to call just in case.

I posted a few images in my folder. Please note.. i posted ones where lighting was tough-

and nothing has been corrected- just to give you a heads up- and others just to give you a

feel for the location. Front of the building as you are looking at it from the fountain- gets

both morning and late afternoon blaring sun- in the afternoon its a bit better- but you will

notice left side of building is still really bright. We found one location where there was alot

of open shade- which from the front of the building- facing it if you go to the left and

follow it around you will find a nice area that has the checker board floor, stairs that lead

up to nice archways and a beautiful flowered wall

    good luck-

  8. I usuallly do a site evaluation about 1 week prior to the wedding. I take a few snap shots of

the location to get ideas of what might look good. I previsualize some shots and In my case i

like being prepared.. so that i am not searching around during the big day.. looking for great

locations.. for a specific shot i have in mind. I try not to overload myself with too many

preconcieved speficic shots- maybe 4-5 of the bride and groom.. then let the rest of the day

be spur of the moment and candid stuff. I find that i work more efficently in this way, most

importantly, i get the bride and groom off to go have fun and enjoy their day. Of course,

when i am asssiting- i have nothing preplanned and often find that i am much more creative

and often try things i would not normally try...

  9. I just had a request from a client for a product- that i cant seem to locate thru my vendor.

she wants her proofs (4x6) delivered in a box- but where the proofs are matted (like a slip in

black matt). anyone know of such a product- who has it.. how expensive it is? any help is

    appreciated- thanks in advance!!

  10. the worst of the craziness- was during the family formals, although, it was pretty constant

through out the day- can you guys think of any task that the mother of the bride can do-

that is not insulting to get her busy and out of your hair? Serioulsy.. dont laugh- but i did

send her on a wild goose chase once.. to get her out of my hair. Yes- i told a fib, told her

that there was a really pretty lady in a blue dress- that had some questions for her

regarding the church decorations and that she needed her help- It was all i could think of

at that moment, she never mentioned about it later either.. hahah Funny thing i remember

too. upon leaving and saying good bye- she never said thank you- but rather apologized

for her families body type.. said it must have been horrible to work with? Your not kidding

    - lowest end of human nature

  11. i just assisted on a wedding with a bridzilla, and worst of all the mother of the bride who was

a total nightmare to deal with. I wont go into the details of verbal abuse and rudeness - but i

have never been in a position where i could not talk people out of their funk. There is the

occasional freak out, really i realize that its emotional for everyone and generally can work

through it and turn people around and they get the idea and act right. NOT This time. So, i

am just curious to find out what some of your techniques are when dealing with the worst of

the worst and how you get thru it with diplomacy? JEEZ.. after a 12 hour day too.. the father

of the bride gave our food away to the bartender, and laughed about it.. right in front of us!!

  12. I think the slide show is a great idea. Agree with the above comment- any pro can look at a

4x6 prints- and see past the sample size to get a feel for your work. So, whatever you decide

to bring- just make sure its your best work. If this fellow already knows your prior exp- he is

likely to be concerned with your personality.. most of all! I would hire someone who has a

great personality, can wrangle people with diplomacy, smiles alot-puts people at ease.. has a

general knowledge of photography and wants to learn over someone who is a slug with no

    personality but shoots great images!,

  13. did you ever see the movie momento? where he tattooed all important info on himself?

seriously.. something i have considered. i think if you do it enough..make mistakes.. learn

from them.. it will eventually become second nature and you wont forget. I do keep a

checklist- funny though its worthless when i really need it. the reason is.. once i start getting

really busy i tend to get tunnel vision and FORGET about the LIST. Most important for me- is

to slow down and focus on what i am doing- have a set routine and always follow it.

Whenever you go from one location to another indoors to outdoors- have a mantra-which

will remind you to change your iso. Hope that helps..

  14. thanks for all the info guys.. Jon- thanks for the tip on the nose break.. something i know..

but of course in the moment .. got rushed and well it just didnt happen.. plus as a second

shooter.. i ofter direct less and let the main photographer get all her shots first.. and

sometimes.. she off onto something else.. and i miss my shot.. something i need to work

on for sure. Scott- no i just bounced flash off the ceiling- Paul- it is totally cold in santa

cruz-not a clear day in two months-arrgh mr sin city- why did you leave?? Ok so about the

white balance- i will definately work on that- do you guys correct when shooting? or do it

after the fact in photoshop? I would really love to see some examples of some low angle

shots of yours that you think work- that would be really helpful! thanks again
