Hello,
I have an opportunity to buy Sigma 400mm 5.6 macro HSM at a very low price (in
good condition). Unfortunately I'm unable to test it out on my D200 before the
purchase. Does anyone have this combination working. I read about some
compatibility issues with Sigma HSM lenses and Nikon D200 but nothing
specifically about this lens in particular. I'm mostly hoping to hear about any
compatibility issues but if anyone can comment on the quality of this lens, of
course that would be very helpful as well.
Best Regards,
Jason

Thanks Josh,
I jumped the gun a bit, but man, my eyes were hurting! Good luck to PN in sorting that out.

These new banners are brutally annoying, an eyesore, and detract very much the from pleasure of looking at a nice photograph. I think photo.net will be losing many of its users because of these.

Thanks everyone for your knowledgable responses. I believe I got the answers I needed. It's the pre-flashes in TTL Commander mode with subject looking at the camera that I am worried about.
Andy, I think the E6 film idea is what I was looking for. I'll try that first, and move on to the Nikon attachment or SU-800 if all else fails.
I'll report back any usefull findings.
Cheers,

Has anybody heard of covering the on camera flash with and infra-red filter to
avoid blinking issues when using remote flashes in Commander mode?
If so, can you let me know what material is used for such a purpose and how well
it works.

OK, it seems that I've got some more investigating to do. I'm definitely going to stay digital and as far as my budget is concerned, it's a somewhat flexible, however I was hoping to avoid getting up to 10 to 15K on a digital medium format camera.
I do appreciate all the input so far. Nikon certainly took a little beating here.
Any more comments are welcome and appreciated.
Thanks again,
J

I'm hoping to start a portrait photography studio, and am looking for
some advice on the best, and most versatile camera to use. Currently
considering the Nikon D200, but would really appreciate any input or
suggestions from others.
Thanks in advance.

Nikon D200 with Sigma 400mm 5.6 macro HSM?

Thanks Bill! I appreciate your input. Now that I look more closely at the specs, it's not actually the HSM model. Not even sure they have one for Nikon at 400. Anyway, I think it's still a bargain so I'll likely go for it.
