Here are 2 youngsters near Lake Myvatn in NE-Iceland.

That really is a formidable army and one that

is not getting any smaller in Iceland.

 

While photographing birds in a cemetary in Reykjavik I found to my

suprise this merlin. I took a bunch of pics and this is one of them.

The local redwings did NOT share my enthusiasm. This photo is not

cropped, she was about 3 to 4 meters away from me and was still there

when I left. I did not expect her to stretch so I missed the lowest

part of the wing here. She was in the shade and getting a clear shot

with no branches between us was a bit tricky but I am happy with the

results. This is my first encounter with a falcon that has produced

any decent photos.

Thank you for your kind remarks. I went to downtown Reykjavik last saturday evening to escape the Eurovision Song Contest and also to photogrpah terns. So I was hoping for some good shots but I did not expect to capture such a great pose from the terns. They are admirable birds and it is allways a pleasure to see them in the spring here in Iceland.

Red Necked Phalaropes are one of my favorite birds, allways

on the move and not very shy.

You are lucky to have such friends in your back yard,

Same goes for your avian folder, very nice!!

While watching a loon with 2 young a second arrives with

a fish and feeds one of the young, then leaves again

shortly after.
