If you are in SE-Iceland ou might want to check out cape-Ingolfhofdi. A farmer (I believe) ferries people there in a horse wagon. It is known for its bird life and scenic view. I have never been there but have allways wanted to go, hopefully I have time this summer.

Greetings.

I have the 200 mkI and have used it quite a bit with a 1.4X and a 2X
for bird photogrpahy with a 10D (I now have a 500 F4 however)
I saw no noticable image degradation with a 1.4X, slightly slower autofocus.
With the 2X
a) autofocus slows down but is very usable.
b) suffers color fringing in high contrast situations.
However stopped down it is very usable but you have to keep b) in mind.
The hood is not very usefull in my opinion.
It is a brilliant lens and I wont part with mine, I used it with a 1.4X on a boat this summer
for taking Gannet photos where the 500F4 was not usable.
Greetings,
I have a 10D and am considering buying a 20D. I use my 10D mainly
for bird photogrpahy with a 500F4 IS lens.
Can a user of a 20D tell me how long the wait is after the buffer
of the 20D is full before taking another shot (in RAW mode, not jpg)?
Also, how long does it take to write a full buffer to a flash card.

I cant answer you question about autofocus but can you really
get the Canon 500mm 4.5 USM for about 1500$ or less?

Ive seen brilliant pictures taken with the Sigma 50-500.
I have however never used one. A member of my photo club
here in Iceland has one and has never complained about it.
Hello.

I am thinking about ordering a Wimberly Gimbal head and a Gitzo G1340
to support my 500mm F4 IS lens. At the moment I think I will get the
Wimberly without the C-3 clamp (save a few $). I would use this combo
for bird photogrpahy.
I have 2 questions.

Is possible for me to order the clamp+plate later attach it to the
head later?

Is it a hassle to mount the camera to the head without the
clamp+plate?

any thoughts on this matter appreciated,
The 200mm f2.8 with a 2X converter autofocus's fine on a 10D. Not
as well as with a 1.4X however.
I used the 200mm +2X/1.4X on a 10D for bird photography with
nice results but recently got myself a 500 f4. The 200mm +1.4X
in my opinion produces very good results but with 2X I see a some
decrease of quality. This can be quite noticable in some high
contrast situations.
b.t.w. I have the 200mm mk I with the fixed hood.
I was, and still am very happy with the 200mm but I rarely use it
without converters. I would suggest the 300mmf4 rather than buying
a 200 and allways using a converter with it.
cheers,
Jakob S.

Pretty much all photos of birds on my web page (www.simnet.is/jakobs/birds/birds.html) are taken with a 10D, 200mm f2.8 and 1.4X or 2.0X converters.

Dont look at the lens, look through it ;)

I dont think they are available black from canon, but all others
(kenko, tamron, etc) extenders are available black.
Thanks all for your response, I live in Iceland and DO NOT want
to get into a circumstance that I will have to return a lens at
my expense. I am starting to doubt that Adorama gets any second
time buyers of used equipment.
Hi there
I am considering buying a expensive used lens from Adorama.
the grade of the item is marked E-. Does anyone here know what
to expect from them. Are the optimistic regarding grading the gear?
I have never ordered used from them and do not know what to
expect.
What does brassing mean in this context?
Any info from you appreciated.

regards,
Jakob S.

The Adorama grading system is according to their we page:
N = New Comes complete as packed by manufacturer with warranty except
where noted.
D = Demo Demonstration condition almost like new, might show very
light use.
E+=Excellent + Very clean
E = Excellent Shows normal wear, might have minor scratches, glass
clean.
E - = Excellent - Average wear, may have small marks but no
brassing
V = Very Good Shows heavier wear, works mechanically fine
G = Good Shows extra heavy use wear, glass might have scratches,
usable
F = Fair Beaten up, sold as is
You shoot in Color Space: Adobe RGB.
Maybe Im wrong, but dont you have to 'Assign Profile' to Adobe RGB in PS?
Or have you done that already?
Ath keh.com the 1N is selling from 500$ rated as 'bargain' to 900$ rated 'like new minus' so compared to that, 400$ does not sound bad.

I bought batteries from http://www.sterlingtek.com.
I havent tested them compared to power2000 or the
canon batteries but my fitst impression is that they
are as good.

At 12$ a piece and 8$ shipping to Iceland. A very good
price compared to what is available here is Iceland.
I recently browsed through a new Icelandic nature book. I know the photographer and know that a lot of the bird pictures in the book where taken with a D60 or a 10D. I really did not see any difference between then and others pictures taken with film.
-
'getting cheap' is not the same as 'not buying canon'.
If there are reasonable alternatives why not look at them?
I will get the 550EX since there seem to be problems with the 500 line and the 10D.
Thanks all, for the input.

Greetings,
I recently got a EOS 10D.
But as expected my 540EZ wont work with it. I mainly
photograph birds and have used a better beamer extender.<be>
I would like to use it with my 10D.

The sigma EF-500 flashes are said to be compatible with the
EOS digital SLR's. I would like to hear if any of you
are using sigma flashes on your 10D's and if you have
encountered any problems or not.
I have been using the 200mm 2.8f mkI with the 1.4X and 2X (type I also).
Autofocus is noticibly slower with the 2X and I get vigneting(darker
corners), not much but with a clear background it is noticable
I am happy with the quality of the pictures however.
