It's a cool photo but overdone. For example her skin is too smooth in some places (collar bone and neck area) and blotchy in others (face, nose, forehead). Good concept, needs some work on the execution if you want to be perfect with it (and why not?)

A very pretty image. I find the large foreground object however to be little more than a mis-shapen blop that adds little IMO and distracts the eye. I think a better foreground element, and perhaps placed in a way that better balances against the background would have improved it immensely. Otherwise, it's another well-executed, pretty shot but nothing extraordinary.

A ballerina's feet I do not find all that original or interesting (done over and over, like an old person's hands) but I do like how you captured the feet here and the tone of the image. I do however find the composition not altogether compelling or flattering and the background is certainly way too busy and distracting IMO.

A breath-taking shot with excellent lighting and gorgeous color. However, I find the subject matter amazingly cheesy and overdone, overall it's much too plasticky looking and over-photoshopped. If it accomplished your goal, then congrats, it does have it qualities. But just too overworked IMO. Congrats on POW nonetheless.

I think it's a beautiful image. Looks a little soft but perhaps that's due to JPEG compression though I've seen very sharp images on this site--maybe that can be improved assuming it is a sharp image. I'm puzzled by the comments about its creativity as I do not find a branch over water exactly creative or unique. Not too keen on the title either, but that's me. As I said, its a beautiful image though. Wish I'd taken it.

Nice shot. But I too do not like the black background. Reminds me of one of those motivational posters and I expect some kind of inspirational business quote under it.

Completely agree! And a one of a kind photograph produced by capturing the actual event as it happened when it happened is not a manipulated image in which things were cut and pasted to make something appear as it did not happen. Big difference! Seems we agree 100%.

"If something you took for an oil painting were revealed to be a photograph manipulated to look like a painting, are you saying that would not change your evaluation of it?"

"Indeed I am although it might change how much I would pay for it."

That sure sounds to me like you'd change your evaluation of it!

Cute shot. Looks like a post card I'd see for sale on a rack next to the register at some foofy accesories costume jewelery shop on Union Street. I'd have more admiration for it if not so obviously heavily manipulated. Not a negative per se but it makes it a digital graphic image and not a slightly tweaked photograph in my book. Does my book matter to you? Probably not. But that does not matter either.
  1. Pretty shot. I do not find anything overly unique or original though. I think the bird on the right is a bit over-exposed and the one on the left a bit under---maybe not overly so but enough to take a bit away from the image. Also the one on the left looks a little blurry or soft----am I the only one to see that? Some people say how perfectly sharp they both are---so maybe it's me. I'm not too keen on both of them facing away, the one on the left I find is especially in an awkward position with it's back completely to us and the feathers ruffled in an unattractive way, IMO.

Do not get me wrong, I think the photog should get accolades for this nice capture, especially for his efforts if it was indeed wild birds in a wild setting. However with this flood of effusive and praise that it is perfect, I simply cannot agree with that 100%. This is a nice shot and I'd be happy to say I shot it, however there are loads of perfectly exposed, perfectly-situated, razor sharp bird images out there--but this is not one of them.

Very nice shot, it's striking. I really like the eyes, the composition and the warm tone. I am not, however, so keen on the blotchy, clumpy grain-like texture in the tonal transitions of her skin. I guess one could say it adds character and a film-like look, but I think it could have achieved that with looking oatmeal-like in the grain.

A good family Xmas card shot. Is there a reason you choose to clip off the top of the cap? Also, seems a little soft, maybe your scan? Nice one for the family mantle photo frames.

I like it. The blown highlight lends a sense of balance to the deep, rich blacks. I find the misty light in the middle, outlining the mountain ridge so well, to be the best thing about the image. And the details of the dark foreground add a welcomed sharpness to juxtapose the misty, soft feeling of the rest of the image. Good placement of elements too.

Here's something I took with my Sony digicam that has a similar sort of feel in some ways: http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=2573878

A very nice take on a way too common shot of Half Dome. That bridge, from where this image was taken (Sentinel Bridge, if I remember correctly), is usually crowded with photographers at sundown vying for tripod space all taking the same, boring image. But you've captured a good additional element here that's made all the difference. Very nice.

My only critique would be that the shadows, while containing good details, seem a bit muddy to me. Perhaps a small + of contrast even at the cost of some of the shadow detail?

Very nice. Excellent composition and framing. The subtle, almost monochromatic tones of the trees contrast nicely with the grass. The green is just a bit over-saturated IMHO though.
