No, I am not using anything, just plain scan. What are your settings in Vuescan for medium format B/W negative?
-
Well, I try to scan to the same size using the same sharpening in Photoshop and somehow when I open Vuescan scan in Photoshop it looks softer and sometimes has some artifacts that are not present when I look at the picture in Vuescan. I suppose I am doing something not what I should not. That is why I ask if you can give me some of your setting for Vuescan

I just got Epson 4990 and I am scanning some medium format B/W
negatives. With my 35mm Minolta film scanner I was using Vuescan but
with Epson I am getting better results with Epson software. Does
anyone have experience with both softwares and what should be the
workflow of using Vuescan with 6x6 negatives on Epson 4990?

I found this statment on a very reputable site: Color and B/W negative films only go to about 1.4D perfect negatives, and in even heavily exposed ones almost never over 2.0D, so DMax has no importance for scanning from negatives.
Therefore for scanning blsck and white negatives Epson 4990 (Dmax:4.0)wouldn't be better then Epson 4490 ( Dmax: 3.4)? Could it be true?
