I have a wedding that I did and there is a color shift in the grooms tux. In some pictures it is black and others
it is blue with the satin parts showing up as purple. I use lightroom but am clueless on this one as to how I can
correct the color shift and make the tux black. Any ideas?

I have been researching lenses for wedding work and I thought that I would
purchase the nikon 28-70 2.8. The thing is that I can't seem to find it
available to purchase at the stores that I trust such as Adorama and B&H Photo.
Has this lens been discontinued and replaced by the 24-70 2.8? I didn't want to
pay the extra money for this lens but I think I might have to. Any insight as to
why I can't find this lens?

Thanks...I am thinking that I will just have to order the larger size as I am unwilling to invest time in making this album work as an 8x10. When you do an 10x10 size does that aspect ratio work for the other square album sizes? This is probably the last time that I use the 10x12 size now that I know it can't fit other album ratio's.
-
My sizing is correct for the 10x12 album. Because it is a flush mount album both pages are designed as one page making a 20x12 size. So for my 8x10 album for a page spread would be 16x10. It is not a square format.
I assumed that a 10x12 inch album could be sized down to an 8x10 size since it is the same aspect ratio. The album company also assumed the same thing since they thought they could do that for me. When I resize it down I get a size that is just .33" of an inch off. That is why I would like to just stretch the backgrounds a bit to make up for this. Any more thoughts?

I sent off a digital album I designed to a company to be made into two albums.
The size that it was made in is 10" (width) by 12" (height). I actaully desinged
the album as 20" by 12" because it is a flush mount album. For the parent album
I order a 8x10 album of the first which the album company said they could resize
for. Well here is the email I got yesterday for the company
"We try to resize the 10x12 to 8x10 but it is not in 8x10. It ends up being
8x9.2 and cuts off the pictures. Can you resize it in and resubmit the 8x10."
When I try and resize I have exactly the same problem. I don't know what to do
to resize it correctly. I want to have the same aspect ratio because if I don't
keep it there is a slight stretch to the pictures that I don't like. My thought
is to make an 8x10 canvas in photoshop and then copy the layers on to it,
transform it and then just stretch the backgrounds. I don't know how to do
this...any thoughts? If there is I need detailed instructions:-)
If I can't figure this out my next step will be to just order the album as a
10x12 and eat the extra cost.

I have already designed one flush mount album which turned out beautiful. It was
a 10X12 size. I am not sure if I want to continue with that size as I do not see
it offered at very many album company's. I used White Wedding Album for my flush
mount album. I will also be using Asuka albums which only offer a square format
(10x10,8x8,etc.) So I am wondering if I should streamline my albums and use a
square format for both style albums or if I should just continue with the 10x12
size album for one style(flushmount) and a square format for the coffee table
album from Askua.
What is your favorite size to design with and fits the proportions of your
pictures well?
Thanks!

Thanks so much! I knew I had to be missing something.

I have just started using a second photographer at my weddings this weekend.
What I am trying to figure out is how to sequence our separate files by time so
that my assistant's pictures are all in proper sequence with mine. I have
Lightroom, Nikon View 6, and Adobe Photoshop 7.0. Can I do that with any of
those programs? I am downloading the pictures to a file on my desktop, removing
unwanted photos and renaming in Nikon View and then loading them into Lightroom.
Please let me know is there is an easy way to file sequence by time!
I have realized that I am unable to rename my raw files once they are in
Lightroom which is something I don't like because I like to eliminate photos and
renumber them so there are no "missing" pictures. I like my raw and jpegs to
have the same numbers for quick reference. I do all this in Nikon View, is there
something I am missing in Lightroom?

My actions have stopped working in Photoshop 7.0. Up until now I have used them
all the time and now they won't work. My background layer is locked so I have
tried duplicating it and making new layers but my actions still will not work. I
push the play button and NOTHING happens. I think that my background layer being
locked is new because I have always worked on my background and have never made
a new layer to use my actions. Any ideas???? I have searched the web and tried
the suggestions but nothing seems to be working. HELP!

Can you really upgrade for free to CS3 when it comes out if you have CS2? I have been waiting to upgrade to CS3 instead of purchasing a CS2 right not knowing I could upgrade for free.
I am also a homeschool mom/teacher and was given a educational discount for from Adobe even though it is obvious my only student is 7 years old so I would also say there is room in what the educational discount/photoshop can be used for. This was given directly to me though and not through a college to me.

I was wondering what you offer as your base album or the album that is in your
lowest package? I currently offer a "proof" album of 4x6's of all wedding shots
of the day. I origianaly did this because this is what I received from my
wedding and I liked it. I am reconsidering that now because my own wedding proof
album only had about 200 pictures (back in the days of film!) and I run about
400-500 pictures which is impossible to find one album for. I am also finding
out that I dislike giving out all my pictures in this form because the aren't
all my "best" of the day and some of them are just ok.
I also offer a more traditional wedding album with 100-150 5x7's. I like this
much better because I am able to pick my best for this album.
I am also working on offering storybook albums.
So what do you offer for your lower package albums? I currently cosidering just
doing a simple coffee tablebook from either millers or askubooks with about 100
pictures in it. A templete book that is easy to put together on the computer and
realtivly inexpensive. A drag and drop book, black background. Good idea or bad?
My other question is how to you go about offering different ablum options if the
other things in your packages are the same. Should I offer one package with an
option to upgrade the albums? Or individual packages with different albums?
Thanks,
Katie

I have a question concerning the white wedding album company. Do any of you use
them and do you like them? I want to use them for a 10X12 Flush Album but don't
have any page dimensions to work with as I design the pages. Where have you
found this information if you have designed the pages. I really like the prices
and the look of their albums but I am a little frustrated by the lack of
information. If you have used this company and didn't like them which company is
a good second choice?
Thanks,
Katie

I shoot school pictures for homeschoolers every fall. I always do outside photos and the parents really love them. I choose a simple background with foliage and then use a shallow depth of field. I use all natural light and the pictures usually turn out beautiful. I usually have the parents pre order their children's indivdual pictures and I fill the order with the best picture. As I am only doing head and shoulder shots I usually only need just a couple of shots to make sure I get one with a decent smile and their eyes open. For a small additional fee I also take several different poses of family or sibling shots. Besides the addtional sitting fee (to cover website hosting) they are able to buy the pictures for the same price as school pictures. The parents love this because it gives them a chance to get Christmas pictures done for a resonable price.
These family pictures are then posted on www.collages.net for two months. The familys are able to go on there and order their pictures (but not the individual pictures, I do that). My school pictures I mail out to the families because I charge $3.00 for shipping. The family pictures ordered through collages.net are sent directly to them from the lab. I did less than 75 students and I only charge $8.00 a sheet (they are able to build their own packages, labor intensive for me but families on a budget love it.) I would say I made around $3,000 doing it this way.

I just started my wedding business this year and have had quite a few
consultations at my home. As I have worked previously with another photographer
and have only done a few weddings on my own I don't have a huge portfolio to
present.
My question is what do you use for sample albums and for portfolio albums. I
know that I would like to show each album that I offer in my packages but I also
want to have more portfolio style albums to show with 8x10 or 5x7 pictures in
them. I want something that won't cost a lot like my actual wedding albums and
yet are professional looking. My idea was to have 4-5 portfolio albums with each
containing a wedding with about 30 large pictures in them(8x10 or 5x7). I want
something that I could easily update with a new wedding when I feel I have a
better one to show. I will also have a wedding presented the album that I offer
in my package.
So what do you use? How do you keep updated professional albums around for
consultations? Do you use something flexible or do you create entire albums from
the albums that are in your packages? When I sit down with a client I want to
present the best that I have. How can I do that with out breaking the bank?

This is a great question because I am in the same boat. I am looking forward to reading the responses.

Thanks for the ideas. I hadn't thought about dry mounting them. I haven't done that since college but that is a great idea with the larger prints.
Thanks!

Here is my problem. I have a wedding show this fall and want to have two large
framed and matted pictures on easels. I am totally confused on what size I
should do. I went to Aaron Brothers today and picked up two frames that are
20x28 with the thoughts of putting 16 x 20 matted pictures in them. Any ideas or
suggestions? What large size prints do you generally do and what size mattes do
you use (if any)? They will be viewed from across a booth so I want them large
enough to see. I know a lot of it is a matter of preference but I have never
framed any of my pictures that large. Please point me in the right direction.
Thanks!

Thanks for the info. I will start at what I mentioned, see how it goes and adjust from there. This will an evening reception so I don't think tha there will be to much light coming in the windows. I am going to scope it out in a week or so.

Those are good reasons for using f2.8. That is probably why I like those images more than the others at smaller apertures, I just hadn't thought it through that far.
-
I generally don't get a blur from 1/30 because my flash freezes the subject (if I am using it right!). The farther away my flash is from the subject the more likely that I will get a blur but I do have good luck with 1/30. I really like to capture as much ambiant light as possible.
I personally had a very beautiful outdoor evening reception. We had thousands of twinkle light and candles haning in several very large walnut trees that provided the lighting for the reception. When I look back at my pictures I realize that none of them capture the ambiance of the evening. A lot of flash was used and there is no background light. There is none of the magic from the evening in my pictures. So I like to capture as much of the mood lighting as possible.

I was just looking back through some of my weddings at what settings worked for
indoor receptions. I am not really worried about noise as most of the time these
pictures don't get enlarged. So the settings that I like for my Nikon D100 where
iso800, 1/30, f2.8, and a SB800 that I either bounced or diffused for shots.
They seemed to be most well balanced with ambient light and the flash.
My question is
1) Do you agree with these settings?
2) How much do you increase your flash output?
I have another wedding coming up that is all indoors so I am curious what you
think of these settings.

I was reading some of the posts which inspired me to learn about layers in
photoshop this afternoon. I did a fill layer (black) and a blur layer. Now I
would like to warm up the skin tones but I can't seem to make another
adjustments layer to do so. Am I missing something? How would you go about
warming up the skin tone or giving them that portrait glow? I have moved
recently with another move coming up in a week or so so all my photoshop books
are packed.

I cheated and bought a templete from http://www.winkletwebdesign.com/. I don't know the first thing about web design and just learning the html code to add my things to the templete for the website was challenging. I am very happy with the way that it turned out. Thanks for the tips, I will look for that book.

I have just moved to a new area (Reno, NV)and am looking for ways to jumpstart
my photography buisness. I currently do mostly family portraits and children. I
worked with a wedding photographer at the last place that I lived and learned
the ropes with her. I have done two weddings on my own (after working with the
photographer). I would love to start shooting weddings here in my new town but
am a little unsure of how to start advertising.
So any suggestions or idea's of how I can go about getting my name out there to
potential brides. I would also have the opportunity to shoot at Lake Tahoe if I
can advertise to the right people. I am already signed up for the wedding fair
this fall but would like to get some business before then. I really miss shooting!!!
Thanks, Katie Watkins
