Has anyone photographed in the Atchafalaya Swamp utilizing a local guide? Is there guide service available? Where and contact information? I know Joseph Van Os is taking a group in late April or early May, however, I was looking for a cheaper route.

Before I would plunk down the money on the big glass I would do a couple of things. First I would do some soul searching to see if I really would use this lens. Second, I would rent a number of the lenses discussed and take them on an outing to see which lens or combination of lens and converter were appropriate. A number of the larger camera stores will rent equipment. Check in your area or on the web. Good luck.

I was in Austin on April 6, 7, &8 and the bluebonnets along Highway 71 from Columbus to Austin were in full bloom. The Austin area has a good crop along Highway 183 and along Highway 290 from Austin to Brenham. Fredericksburg is in full bloom right now. The Marble Falls Burnet area have not bloomed as thick as around Austin, Brenham and Fredericksburg. If you have time to go to Plantersville and Montgomery the flowers are great. For your information the Wildflower Research Center is closed on Mondays.
