I was recently sent on assignment to SXSW to capture the event for the magazine. After 3 hours of lugging my E3 with battery pack & bag of lenses, I shot the rest of the assignment with an E-P1 and E-PL1, Lumix 50-200, and Zuiko 12-60 with adapter. The editor was extremely happy with the results, and my shoulder and back appreciated the holiday

Congratulations. Nice image.

It's probably considered a dinosaur by Today's standards, but I use a Panasonic DMC-L1 to supplement my other digital DSLRs. It has a shutterspeed dial on top, The usual lens is a Pana-Leica 14-50mm which has an aperture ring, AND of course, a manual focus that is accessed by a small switch on the back of the camera.
I am very fond of this camera because I can manually control all shooting aspects without having to access menus.
I hope this helps somewhat.

Purchased my previously owned M8 from Kurland Photo. Very reliable and knowledgeable Leica dealer.

OM1N + 24mm f2.8. I shot almost every published photograph with this combination from my first one in 1973 until the E3 came out.

I just acquired the camera I have been looking for since I left my OM1 for digital several years ago. Not even the Leica M8 I have been carrying for 2 years gave me as much enjoyment as my new (3 days old) Olympus EPL-1 !

I have a Panasonic G1 with adapters for Olympus OM lenses and one for Nikkor lenses. The camera is just a terrific piece of photographic equipment. I have no reservations about using it anywhere. I have taken it backpacking, to indoor concerts, and to my daughter's dance performances under stage lighting. It performs beautifully.
A friend of mine has a Canon G10 which is also a great choice.
You are fortunate that there is so much more available now.

7-14mm f4
14-50mm Vario-Elmarit f2.8 this is my "always on the camera" lens.

I recently found one of these (Kodak 14N) for 400e (about$500US) used in Lisboa. I comes with 2 batteries & charger and a few other accessories. I will probably buy this camera since I want a full frame DSLR and don't want to spend a lot of money on the body so I can put most of the money I have into glass.
What generations of Nikon lenses should I look for so that all the functions work correctly?

Mine took 17 days from New York to California!

I like the one that came in the box (1975) with my Olympus OM-1. Been using it for all these years, never a problem. The best part is that unlike the modern straps, it doesn't have a camera logo emblazoned on it that you can see two blocks away.

Still miss my first Hasselblad (500C). Stolen from me in 1976.

I have wondered which version I have of the M8. I bought it used a year ago. It has been trouble free. The serial number is in the 3,104,5xx series.
Where do I go to find out?

Joe,
Just 2 guys, one a semi-retired photojournalist and one a movie maker (did I get it right that time?) with different approaches to the same question. My only point was that you spend whatever dollars it takes to "float your boat". Since I no longer shoot to earn a living, I am only involved in the 'pleasure' side of shooting.
BTW, nice casual portrait.

Sorry,
I got the price for the Canon from the local Calumet store. They have the Canon priced @ $7999 and the Leica (not in stock) at $6999.
Regards

I'm just a little confused by all the rhetoric here. Shouldn't the price comparison between the top-of-the-line M9 be made against the similar item from Canon, the EOS-1DS Mark III? Which is priced at an unflinchingly high $1000 OVER the price of the M9. Supposedly both are the state of the art from their respective manufacturers.
AND, the Canon has no provision for total functionality with the high end optics which belong to Zeiss and Leica.
Above everything else, irregardless of whether you approve or not of the IQ, noise, or features involved from one camera to another. The pleasure I get from my M8, and hopefully an M9 when I am financially able, is what you pay for.
Of course, we could just dismiss the opinion of Mr. Murray, because after all, he is a video guy (we Photojournalists who don't shoot video refer to them as vidiots), who has not yet experienced the camera in question). (Just a humorous jest sir, no personal insult intended).

May I have 2 please? Address to ship them to available on request.

Nothing but positive experiences with KEH. I have to do all purchasing by mail since we have no camera stores closer than a 2 1/2 hr. plane ride.
But I have always called and spoken to a person, they have been a little slow in answering emails.

How do you say it in English I think.... "my tongue was in my cheek"
Sorry if I offended you with a small jest. I guess that was part of the discussion, was it not?
English is not my first language and for that I apologize also.

So... let me understand. I am welcome to participate in this forum because I own a IIIC, but it is best not to mention that most of my work is shot with an M8?

Fotos excelentes de nossa grande celebração!

One thing that people forget to consider is the weight of the bag. My personal favorite bag is the canvas Domke which I have used since 1977. We are always being asked to try products at the magazine, and some have even given them to us for free hoping for some free advertising or good review in exchange. One such company was Tamrac who gave us all bags, but they weighed 3+ pounds each! Domke has bags of many sizes and they last a long time. Also consider the fact that your "kit" may grow in the future, so best to get a bag with at least one more pocket than you think you need.

The E-620 looks like it has some great features especially at the projected body price (msrp) of $699 USD.
