Recently I purchased a lot of Arista EDU 120 films for my Pentax 645.. The
first roll worked as expected.. Roll #2 would not advance to the first frame,
as though the insert was not communicating with the body that new film was
inserted..
At home, I tried another 120 insert with the same roll of film, no advance..
I tried my second body and both inserts with the same results..
I opened a new roll and put it in the camera, advance worked, shot the film,
no problem..
Upon inserting the third roll of film, no advance..
I put in a roll of J&C 100 and camera worked as expected..
I contacted Freestyle sales by email, but they have been non responsive..
I have examined the failed films for reel size differences and other
anomalies, finding only that the reels have the X type cut in the ends to
engage each 90degrees instead of the single slot to engage each 180degrees,
also the paper backing seems to be a heavier stock than other types..
I'm not sure what the P645 is looking for, but I cant find any visual physical
differences other than what I have already described..
I think that J&C films and Arista films are made by the same company in
Europe..
Any Ideas would be appreciated..
Thanks

Regarding: P30t "advance lever seems locked"
I have three of these bodies.
The advance lever will not move if it is already cocked..
The shutter will only fire if:
a) there are battries installed,(it is an electronic shutter) and,
b) the power/timer switch, to the right of the rewind knob, is
either in the first position forward, (on position)
or,the second position forward, (timer position)

Thanks Michael for your interest and response to my post..
You have an interesting theory regarding the electrical sensitivity of the paper backing, however the film insert when loaded with film has the reverse side of the paper facing the film transport mechanism in the camera, further the camera appears to have only mechanical pressure pins as sensing devices.. I have studied to the best of my ability the service manual for the P-645, and there appears no electrical connection to film or paper detection except a switch (SW K) which appears to be activated by one of the pressure pins.. I certainly am not going to attempt to modify or otherwise manipulate any part of the P-645 as it appears to be, as they say True Rocket science..
I have come up with a solution to the film that will not function in my P-645, I just purchased an old Brownie Box camera, (my mother used to have one of these) about as MANUAL as you can get, and will use the film in it..
I just received an email from Freestyle Sales which offerd me a credit on the films that would not function, took them a week to respond, maybe they were closed for inventory, or..
The problem is solved, but the mystery remains..
