  1. Hi William, thanks for the link. Colorvision support needs to improve. The following sentences need to be more clear:

When it says "There are no new features in this release", which previous version are they talking about. I believe they may be a version between 2.2 and 2.3.5, is this correct?

Also, "Do not download unless you are running Windows XP x64.", this can imply two things, that you don't realy need to install this version or this will not work on 32bit.

I think I will try and reinstall 2.2 even though colorvision emailed be the following:

"Once you have installed version 2.3.5 you can not revert back to 2.2. "

Looks like I will have to go through the registry and delete all spyder entries.

William, do you have the spyder2? If so, do you get consistent calibrations?

  2. Hi Giampi, you said:

"I STRONGLY advice everyone NOT to use RAW as a crutch for exposure and/or white balance"

When shoting in RAW, other than placing gels over your flash, the only place the white balance setting gets used is the default setting in your raw converter, what other decisions do you need to make in regard to white balance?

Would the white balance setting also affect how the flash meters during the shot?

  3. It probably has been asked before, but haven't been able to find a direct

answer. I am looking at buying the Epson 3800.

Since I have had no experience with inkjet or any other form of printer for

photography, I just wanted to know how the prints compare to a lab print. Do

they look like they have been printed with an inkjet printer? How robust are

the prints compared to a lab print (scratching colors off etc).

    Thanks

  4. Thank you for all your responses. I seem to have got rid of the photoshop error by reinstalling the spyder software.

I still haven't completely understood how the whole color management works.

Once you create your color profile, I let the colorvision loader to install the monitor profile when windows starts up. This changes the color prifile everywhere. I initially thought the monitor prifile would only get loaded within selected applications such as photoshop etc. Have I missed something? How do you set the adobe colorspace in conjunction with the monitor profile?

I did a quick search with no success, for a step by step guide in how all the profiles fit together.

Can anyone help or have a good link for colorspaces for dummies?

Also, I installed the microsoft wincolor manager. Not sure how this works. When you select the differen prifiles, nothing happens. With the colorvision profiler you can select each profile and you see the difference immediately.

    Thanks

    Chris

  5. Hi Tim

So what your saying is not to use the calibration software, adjust the monitor visually with grayscale images, and then use your calibrator to see what the results is?

How do you use the hardware calibrator to measure rather than use it with the calibration software? Can I do this with the spyder2 hardware? Is there a third party software which just measures?

Or have I missed the point completely?

    Thanks

    Chris

  6. I had bit more success tonight. I seem to have forgot to reboot after deleting adobe gamma.

6500K vs native seem to make a huge difference whilst switching between the two during the calibartion process.

I will have to send off a few photos to the lab too see what the improvements are.

I have another problem now. When I open CS2 I get the following error:<div>00HAn3-30975384.JPG.9626dc1e46d87c87b751a061c65f194c.JPG</div>

  7. I bought Spyder2 Suite yesterday and have a few questions prior to trying it

    out again tonight.

    1. What should I be selecting in the calibration software, 6500K or Native, and

    what is the difference?

    2. I have a Viewsonic VX2025, you can select sRGB, 9300K, 6500K-default, 5400K,

user color - RGB. What do I select, 6500K?

    3. When I run the calibration on the Viewsonic VX2025, I get a redish color

cast. I have read that others get this as well, but I haven't been able to find

what others have done to fix the issue or what the cause is. Is there something

    I'm doing wrong?

    4. I left the VX2025 brightness and contrast at their defaults. That is,

Brightness 100% and Contrast 70%. What effect does changing these have on

    calibation?

    5. I keep getting an error when I try and calibrate my laptop. I believe it may

be clipping during the calibration. The error message is just some numbers

(can't remember). Are laptops harder to calibrate? Has anyone else had problems

    with laptops and errors.

    Thanks

    Chris

  8. I tried to do a search in regard to the issue I'm having, but I didn't find a

    solution.

I'm realy struggling in regard to the 5D/580ex combo. I keep getting

inconsistant results. I have experimented a little with cf14. Underexposure

always happens whenever there is white in the scene (i think). An example is

when taking table shots of guests. I believe the white table cloth is throwing

the metering. I never had this problem with the eos3/550ex combo. What settings

would you use for table shot senarios? A lot of the time I'm taking photos

quickly trying to capture moments, hence no time to think about white objects

    etc.

I have taken photos at a few christenings. You don't get time to make

adjustments as a lot is happening at the same time. I shot our twins

christening yesterday. That was hard, as it was like two ceremonies at the same

time. How can you get consistant results even with/without white in the scene?

Sorry if I'm rambling, but it's late here in Sydney/Aus.

  9. Hi Jason, sounds like a good idea. I just want you to know though, that this would be my first time taking these types of shots.

The hardest thing for me will be how to get you guys to pose, so this will be trial and error. If you're still interested, we can get some of the more experienced Photonet members to give some tips over the next couple of weeks and see how we go.

Just wondering what your background is. Are you a photographer?

    Chris :)

  10. Hi Jason. I have shot at a few family and friends weddings as you suggest. The only problem there is you can't get full coverage, you have to stay out of the way of the main photographer. At the end of the day I don't get the neccassary experience which you have mention, that is, "You need to be extremely competant as a shooter in all lighting conditions, very organised, a good communicator, tolerant, and able to think quickly on yor feet".

What roll do you take as a second shooter? And how do I approach photographers to ask if they want a second shooter?

    Chris

  11. Hi Jonathon, thanks for the response.

I'm not looking at any particular area's at the moment as I haven't done a wedding professionally yet and I don't have any bookings for any. I'm just trying to gather as much infomation as possible prior to getting a phone call for a wedding.

I'm a little nervous doing a wedding but I'm not sure how else to get stuck into it. I know I would do a much better job than some photographers out there (looking at some of our friends wedding photos), but I know I am still an amateur.

  12. This thread has ended up sounding like a school boy conversation. Sorry Hyon. Kelvin, the infomation is out there do what you like with your camera. My experience with my camera has been the speed of the cf makes a difference. I took photos of our newborns at quick sucssesion and found the camera had to pause even with the ultra 2.
