  1. <i>Comparing anectdotal evidence of bullet penetration is pointless. The difference between various steels: mild, rolled, homogeneous, case-hardened, semi-hardened, or hardened, are orders of magnitude</I>

    <p>

    ...and SLR even isn't made of steel. 0.5-0.8 mm thick Al/Mg or Ti alloy at <b>best</b>. Which isn't much of problem for 7.62 round. Now I tend to think that story was made up.

  2. Actually I've done "unthinkable" - switched from Canon EOS. Reasons were simple: better viewfinders, better flash system, better low-light AF sensitivity, a LOT better mirror damping and better handling of bodies. To me all that means much more than ECF, USM, IS, ETTL and other alphabetical mambo-jumbo in Canon land.
  3. I got a good friend of mine that runs photostore, so from time to time I get access to practically any photo equipment available on market. To make that relevant to the original topic I can tell that see NO practical difference in image quality from pupular DSLRs (D100 and 10D) under similar conditions on prints up to 8x12". Period. This is what people should expect from similarly positioned and priced products made by reputable imaging companies.
  4. I think Nikon isn't waiting anymore as Canon announced 1dmkii together with its price tag. My guess we should see the d2x announcements within a few months but I do tend to think it'll be priced like 10% less than 1dmkii which could be kinda steep for some1 who shoots for fun (although I do own m6 with Summicron, so I contradict myself). Anyway, my dslr experience tells me that 6 mpxl isn't visibly better than 4mpxl as long as intended print is no larger than 8x12" and that is max size I use for my 99% of my prints. If IMOs are allowed, I'd rather settled with d70 as lightweight and compact digital alternative to my m6.
  5. The funny thing is: you can't go terribly wrong with either camera (I mean 10d and d100). If your hands grow from right place, both cams will give you the SAME image quality despite all that popular forum noise about "CCD vs CMOS" thing. Maybe except flash system, Nikon's version of which lets you get better results with less efforts. But if you shoot for fun only go for lighter and more compact camera, which means your choice is "limited" to d70 and 300d, if interchangeable dSLR is what you want. And here it looks like d70 is more sensible choice as far as specs concerned + set of DX Nikkors that are already available. My 2 cents,
  6. <i>Yuriy Vilin, shove that young Jedi crap where it belongs, pal</i>.

    <p>

    I'm not your pal. I am a part of photo.net community that serves to help other hobbyists regardless of their age, nationality, gender, color of skin, habits and mating rituals. People say "thanks" here when they get an advice (just so you know). Same applies to you as it is clear you don't really understand things you're talking about.

    <i>My portfolio serves right now as a host for a to-rent...</i>

    <p>

    Again, if you did know, photo.net portfolio is intended for non-commercial use only.

    <p>

    <i>I consider myself well above average in photographic talent and techniques.</I>

    <p>

    Sorry, I haven't noticed.

    <p>

    <i>Photo.net isn't my life.</i>

    <p>

    Then you're wasting your time here.

    <p>

    <i>get back on my topic...</i>

    <p>

    i did, if this is what you meant with your grammar.
