Hi,
I use 10+ Macro (closeup filter) for my flower photography. Although it is mentioned (labelled) as Macro, it is perfect to say, just a closeup filter, which will allow u to move very close to subject.
These filters are single element with some extra coatings to remove the flare & reflections on it.
But the magnification?. Absolutely depends on your maximum available focal length of the lens.
Hoya & Marumi are good closeup filters. It is a cheap alternative to Real - Macro lens. ( I live in Mumbai, india, Other make filters may be available....but here, we do prefer imported filters ans largely selling makes are those two above brands.).

Dear Mr.Andy Tindall,
I am sorry that, w/o your permission, I have copied your Granddaughter's image and did some works on it, using GIMP Software on Linux O.S.
I somehow, could able to bring the details from the shadow portion. It is a nice Portrait Shot.
I'm hereby attaching the image on which I had worked on, as "Andy_modified.jpg". I need to know your feedback on this.
