No, the placemat is good, it adds to the composition. You should remove the man, it detracts from the artistic aspects of the picture.

While this might be a good nature shot, I would not give it a very high rating for originality. There are (and have been) thousands of shots of birds pulling fish out of water, and I cannot really tell what makes this original. Yes, the bird is in perfect focus and there is water frozen in motion, but that has been done before. One may argue that any subject has been done to such a point as to render it inherently unoriginal. Female nudes are a perfect example: How many different ways can one take a picture of a woman? The answer is an infinite amount; the complexity of the human body in combination with the myriad of possibilities of lighting and composition mean that it is close to impossible to exhaust this category. With the above picture, the photographer is limited by his static position and the predictability of the bird. On the other hand, 99.9999% of the nudes being made today are unoriginal. For a bird picture to be original, it would have to be something no one has every seen and few have imagined. i am curious to know what exactly makes this photo original.

Thanks for your critique! The image was intended to be a contrast between the man with the glasses and the boys playing, so I think its fitting that they distract from him. But you may be correct that in that I need a tighter crop. The grayness is due to the fact that this is a digital picture of an analogue print. If I change the contrast, I lose the feeling of the original print, which has a decent amount of contrast.

I like it. The trees make the house look very insignificant.

The color of the light is very beautiful. I also like the distorted look of the trees and the curved road.

The colors are fine, but there is no focus (no subject) for the picture. I feel like im looking at a hole.

I think is image is very nice and composed very well. Its a little bit of a change from the normal landscapes that I see everyday on this site. I have a bit of a problem with all the people commenting on the sky; that its either not strong enough or should be cropped out in favor of a horizontal landscape. First, not all skys must be intensely saturated. Over-saturation simply makes all these landscapes the same. My second point follows from the first: cropping the image would make it look like all the other landscapes. As a photograher, one thing that I value highly is uniqueness and while this photo is not the most unique it does stand out somewhat from many of the photos on this site and that is something valuable.

Does the out of focus work here? What do you think?

I like it a lot, although i would like it better if it were not softened and if the foot were not cut off, but its very good.
