Simon,
I've just noticed one of these on a certain Scottish 2nd hand site (ahem) in good condition, for a pretty reasonable price. Worth checking out.

That was good timing - I was about to clean my recently aquired 1-3 in alcohol, as it's a bit dirty. I assume you used proper cleaning alcohol?

Here's an English one, in Totterdown, Bristol. Superia 400 on my XA.

Lex, very good point about a reduced frame dslr - I'd forgotten about the crop factor. A 70mm equiv. lens wouldn't be much use! Maybe I'll try a wide after all. It should be easier to resell than the shift too, if I didn't like it. Thanks.

Thanks for your replies. It seems that if I do get a 35mm shift I'll need one at least in excellent condition, and in the UK that's ?400 plus. Hmmm. Ideally I'd like to try one first, to see how much benefit it would really be.
I have a 28mm/2.8 and I'm not sure I want too go much wider than that - I don't want to distort the perceived size of the interiors, ie. make them seem larger than they are, so say a 21mm is probably too much. (I'm interested in small chapels as well as Cathedrals). These were all handheld at 35mm on either my OM1 or an XA:

Lex, I take your point about gaining height, but I suspect the Vicar might not appreciate a pickup parked in the nave :-). I know someone who regularly clamps a tripod to a stepladder, which might be a possibility.
Anyone tried a shift lens on an E1? It would be good to know that it worked on a digital camera, so that in future the lens wouldn't become semi-redundant.

I've been wondering about getting the 35mm f2.8 shift lens to use on
my OM1 to take pictures of churches. Lex Jenkins wasn't too happy
with the shift mechanism:

but the two reviews on photographyreview.com don't mention this. Has
anyone else had experience with this lens? By the way, no I can't
afford the 24mm shift...
