  1. What is going on with the Nikon fast zooms? Nobody seems to have the 17-55, 17-

35, 28-70, or the 70-200 in stock? Is Nikon giving up on the higher end lenses

to concentrate on the hobbyist market?

  2. Since you will most likely be using a sturdy tripod, I would suggest the 300mm F4 AF-S and the TC14E-II teleconverter. I have this setup for my D200 and I love it. You only lose 1 stop using the converter, the AF is still quick, and there doesn't appear to be any discernible image degradation.
  3. I am considering the purchase of a Nikon teleconverter to use with my AF-S

Nikkor 300mm f4D IF-ED lens. Is there anywhere that I can find a comparison of

the performance of the three teleconverters that are available for the AF-S

lenses? I have heard that the 2x teleconverter produces soft images and that

the 1.7x and the 1.4x produce progressively sharper images. I have no idea

whether or not this is true as I have never seen any definitive proof. Any help

    would be much appreciated.

  4. The prices that folks are paying on Ebay are getting to be ridiculous. FM3A's are regularly selling for in excess of $600.00 In fact, Cameta has a factory demo with a buy it now price of $949.95. and another seller has a brand new one with a buy it now price of $899.00. I saw a brand new black FM3A at D&D Cameras in Jackson, Wyoming a couple of weeks ago for $680.00.
  5. Steven,

When I am in the standard edit mode in Elements 4.0, I click

File-->open. A window opens for me to select the folder where my image resides. Then I select the folder where the RAW image resides. I click on the image and make sure that "All Formats" is displayed in the "Files of Type" window. When I then click on "Open" that's when I get the error message. I should mention that my operating system is Windows XP.

I was under the impression that Elements 4.0 ould handle RAW images with no other plugins being necessary. Am I correct about that?

  6. Eric,

Thanks for the link. I knew that there had to be something other than price to differentiate the F3HP from the Limited version. Would a NIB Limited be worth $2,000.00?

  7. After buying my D200 in January, my F5 & F100 have seen absolutely no use as I find that when I want to shoot film, I grab my F3HP's. And, when I take the D200 out for a shoot, I take my wife's D70 along as a backup. As far as selling the F5 & F100, it probably isn't worth the effort with the prices dropping daily.
  8. There was one listed on Ebay with a starting bid of $2,000.00. It went unsold with no bids. It's not mine and I have no interest in it, but I do know the seller as I have bought from him a couple of times. If you are interested, send me an email and I'll give you the link to the closed auction as links to Ebay auctions cannot be posted here.
  9. My answer may be a little biased as I already have a D200 and absolutely love it. But, it would seem that your current lenses are sufficient. If it were me, I would get the D200.
  10. Edward,

Thank you for the advice. I really appreciate it.

I already have a flatbed scanner but it's not very good. I think that I will invest in one of the Nikon film scanners. I'm retired and have plenty of time to learn how to make the most of its capabilities.
