  1. Lilly:

I think in the EXIF data of a photograph I can check it..so I'd take my laptop w/me and a card reader, take a pic and see.

I just find it odd that someone has a D200 w/459 shutter actuations and is asking $850 w/all boxes, manuals etc. I mean compared to $900 for a 4500 shutter actu. D200 on ebay this seems like a deal I cannot pass up right?

I'll just pass on it and buy a new body otherwise I'd be pretty pissed off if it wasnt as-advertised. Just the hesitation of not giving a partial serial # makes me jumpy.

thanks for all the replys (sp) guys/gals.

  2. yea I found it kinda odd. 459 does mean its brand spankin new. Looks clean in the pics but I just dont want to buy a camera that someone had taken from them.

I dont think Nikon keeps track of stolen stuff but nikonians.org (?) I heard has a list?

  3. Locally there is a guy selling a D200 for about $850 body only. I looked on

ebay and they seem to be going for around that price but with varying shutter

actuation levels. The local d200 has 459 supposedly. I'm assuming in EXIF data

I can find this count, is it resettable? I asked for a serial # but he would

not give it to me but said we could go to the local PD to look it up. His

reasoning was that he's given a serial # out before and someone reported it

stolen. This camera is owned by a friend of his.

    TIA

  4. KL IX:

Not the VR, I'm not that much of a pro to justify its price.

Precision Camera. I've looked on ebay for the Nikon 105 but my search has come up empty. I'll check out the Sigma again except take fiancee with me so I can take a pic of her engagement ring..I'd love to see how that turns out. (the pic. LOL).

  5. I've run across a few Sigma macros for about $379 on ebay, not a bad deal

considering they are more locally. I've talked to a photog store in Austin

which said the Sigma is better then the Nikon macro. Anyone care to clarify

this? Resale value I'm assuming the Nikon will come out on top.. I'm not

looking to resell it in a few years, I care more for the optics/lens quality.

    TIA

  6. David,

No offense, but I have forgotten more about computers/programming then you will know in your lifetime. Forgive me if I am wrong.

I am not asking about filesize or imagesize. I am asking if the highest resolution image my camera takes, being 3000x2000(or so) would that be the 6 megapixel image? Simple question. More then likey it is yes but I figured I'd ask.

Please re-read my post to help you better understand my question.

    Thanks

    Alex

  7. just a general question about this.. when I take pics w/my D70S and use the

highest picture mode without RAW are my pictures 6mp pics (assuming 3000x2000)?

What about the D80? Since it is a 10mp camera in theory 3200x2000 (or

whatever size its biggest is) those pics come out as 10mp, correct?

  8. Well there is a little program called rawstudio that lets you adjust your RAW

images.... Not just Nikon, but second class cameras like Canon and Minolta also.

    (just kidding)

    http://rawstudio.org

I compiled it on SuSE 10, works pretty good... small annoyance for me was..when

I went to File--> Open I could not open any images.. so I ran rawstudio directly

from the directory that had the RAW images and it displayed fine.

  9. I recently purchased a 70-300 Nikon lens off of ebay. When my

camera is in 'Auto' mode it can focus just fine.. but when I use

apeture priority it has a hard time focusing. I've used apeture

priority w/the kit lens (18-70) with no problems though. Could it

be a newbie thing and I dont have my settings correct?

    -Alex

  10. Well I dont know if anyone ever used their D70S w/9.2 in P mode...but

just wanted to post a FYI that in M mode you can xfer pics from the

camera to your pc in 10.0. I used F-Spot and it imported without any

    problems.

  11. Since I have a D70s I wanted to put it in here for some suggestions..

I'm a newbie to the camera.. I've been reading the 6th edition

Photography (London/Upton book) and the Blue Crane D70s vid... thanks

to you guys suggestions I'm learning quite a bit. I have not been

using the Auto program in a while..mostly shutter priority/apeture

priority..not brave enough for Manual yet.

I was taking pics w/the 18-70mm kit lens of water droplets. For

lightning I used flourescent lights and the flash.. The fastest

shutter speed I could use was 3200 in S mode because the pictures came

out too dark. BTW, this was done in the kitchen..LOL..so bear with

me. My question is, was the shutter speed quick enough? I left ISO

at Auto, the apeture in exif was 4.5, white balance was set to

flourescent lighting, focusing was set to continuous and I focused on

where the top of the droplet would be. What else could I do to take a

    better pic of droplets?

    Thanks in advance,
