1.
Hello everyone,

I've been with photo.net for quite a while, although not posted many photos. You can check some at my website in the profile but this is not my point. One day I decided that I'll be more helpful to community not by making more landscapes but helping others learn something that I've learned about photography.

So my LensTutorial project was born, you can check it here: www.lenstutorial.com
It was inspired by many dof calcs that only give you dull numbers. As opposite to that I tried to visually represent such interrelated concepts as focal length, field of view, dof and subject distance on one picture and make it all interactive. You can roll the dials the way you like and learn how they work.
Presently there is only version for iPhones/iPads which is free.
Suggestions and feature requests are welcome.
But ultimately I only seek a thumbs up. Please check it out and share your thoughts.

Cheers, Denis

  2. Bob, Mike,

I'm planning a short visit to Yosemite on May 20-21. I'll be shooting D1X. My primary interest will be panoramic photography. I'm ready to do some long hikes and early wakes to catch some early morning light.

Tried to get your emails but the system reports some errors.

    Denis.

  3. Hi Edward,

Thanks for your opinion. However D1x is not a top line anymore. My D70 images look a notch sharper than D1x'es and they are processed almost twice as faster as D1x'es. Neither D1x is expensive nowdays. Its a heavy and sturdy box of 4year old bolts-n-chips. It's getting cheaper and cheaper with time. I can see D1x being sold for around 500 USD on ebay. For that price it comes as a sturdy tool ready for use and abuse. With it I can shoot in any conditions from freezing snowstorm to poring rain with my Manual AI lenses. I already disassembled my En-4 battery to fix the worn wire with a new one to make it work. So I would rather create a cheap substitute for the external power that buy one more expensive accessory for rare use.

  4. Hello,

I want to clean Nikon D1x sensor, but the firmware restrictions only

allow CCD Cleaning when external power supply is connected to the

    camera.

I've tried to find one on eBay but there seems to be one charger

available for 60$. Isn't that ridiculous to have users spend extra

money to do the routine sensor cleaning that I used to do every once

in a while on my Nikon D70. Besides, with D1x out of production we

will soon see no chargers around to clean that D1x sensor.

Does anybody have any workaround or power alternatives that you use

to clean dust off D1x sensor?

I would suppose that one could assemble a substitute for an external

power supply out of simple EN-4 battery and 3 wires. In that case can

somebody tell me which pins of the charger give which voltage?

    Thanks Denis.

  5. Dear all,

Thanks for help. I have fixed the back. The bolt holding the pinion near the counter wheel has unscrewed and the gear wheels were not in place. I've put them back, aligned all the cogs and springs, so it is working now.

I'm going to shoot a roll of film to check out if there are light leaks that have to be removed.

    Regards,

    Denis.

  6. Dear All,

I have an old 1970 Mamiya RB 67 with 6x7 back.

While putting the film in, I did something, which I am not sure of

(maybe the slight twist of the roller counter the winding direction),

but as a consequence the film back does not advance exposure counter

anymore. It does not fixate the frames either. When I advance the

film lever, it just drives the film to the end.

I could not find any descriptions of such a problem over the net. So

then I started to look how much would be for the new back. While

searching on eBay, I found an interesting offer: a broken 6x7 back

with the diagnosis alike with that of mine 6x7

Item>. Looks like the problem is commmon. So I wonder if anybody had

the same issue and possibly found a solution.

    Thanks in advance, Denis.
