The "Naked Cowboy" made his rounds through Nashville last
night. As luck would have it, WKU's NPPA members were
participating in the "Memphis Nights" shoot out. After making this
photo I spoke with the subject not knowing that he is becoming a
national celebrity. His web page is www.nakedcowboy.com. I
would appreciate comments on this as well as any other
(especially recent) images in my portfolio. Thanks,
JLee

Nice shot, I am particularly impressed with it's sharpness considering the fact you couldn't use a tripod. I also like the inclusion of the still figure near the center with the flood of motion around him. However, I wish his back wasn't completely turned toward us. A profile scratching his chin would have really made the shot for me. More reason to continue utilizing this technique.

I'm trying to develop a stock and editorial portfolio. Any critical
comments would be appreciated.

Any constructive criticism appreciated. Printing advice?

Am new to street photography and rangefinders. Would appreciate any
recommendations. Thanks, JLee

Mike, I don't have a problem with the tree in front of the flag. Actually it seems a little symbolic of obscured view we often have of war and freedom. That's about depth that my somewhat unphilisophical mind will allow. On the composition. I like it and don't know if I would have used a wider lens as the compression it created with the background has the desired effect opposed to the diminishing perspective of a wide angle. I would like to see more detail in the sky. Overcast skys just aren't very appealing. Still, I wonder if you could have gotten more detail out of the sky if you would have exposed for it instead of on the statue. That, of course would have meant, rendering the statue as a silhoette but I still think that would be prefered and may even bring out more color in those cherry blossoms. I now see that you used print film so these issues might can be addressed in printing. Anyway, I'm no expert but in my humble opinion, it's a good shot that deserves further effort.

Oh yea, I think that's much better. Not sure about moving the horizon line as I like the balance here but do agree that a smaller aperture would have improved the pic by creating more of a starburst effect. Overall though, I think it's one of the best in your portfolio. Good work.

Just starting to shoot slides and try to compile some stock images.
Hoping your criticisms will help me improve.

Stephen, I think you've made an excellent start here. In fact, you probably should keep this photo in your files for possible stock purposes. I think you could do a bit more cropping in order to reduce the highlight in the top right corner and remove some foreground below the bottom of the bench. I'd like to see this shot at a little higher angle in order to a clean watery background behind the couple's heads as I think the bank dissecting them distracts a bit from what should be the focal point. Good job though. I'd be proud of it.

I'm new here too and know the feeling. I agree this is a decent news shot but it needs some type of human interaction to make it interesting to me. An old man in a rain slicker or a woman struggling with an umbrella would really do the trick.

Appreciate your comments. Amazing how there can be so many differences of opinions. I choose this picture because I liked the palm. I have a lot of regular portrait shots of children looking sweet but I liked how well the colors blended and I know how difficult it was to get her to look my way so, I felt that the palm might help portray her shyness. Hearing differing opinions confirms for me the need to burn some film to get that shot that the parents will like. Thanks again for your comments. JLee

Hanna was a little shy about having her picture taken. Would
appreciate any constructive criticism.

Thanks Paul, I really wanted to convey the wandering creeks of the inlet in this photo but I do think that the one leading directly from the tree is distracting. I'll watch for that, and cutting off the top of the tree on the next shoot (blaming that on the N90 viewfinder but I should have known better.) BTW the "unsharp mask frame" was a bit of experimenting on the part of my photo processor and though I liked it at the time, think it does lend itself for an altogether different type of photo.

I plan to go back to this location and try again. Would appreciate
any comments that might make this better on the second try. Shot at
dawn facing Southeast. Film Correction - shot with Illford XP-2 and
printed for sepia tone (scan looks a bit more red on my monitor?)

Would appreciate any constructive criticism of this shot.
Unfortunately, my scanning abilities/equipment leave much to be
desired. Was much more detail in shadows visible on the original
chrome and color was more crisp.

I'm a duck hunter and wildlife lover so I know how fast things happen in a blind and how quick these birds can be. Therefore, it's amazing to me to see shots like these. It would a real feat to react fast enough to to get the entire bird in frame let alone compose such a beautiful shot. Congrats. Jason Lee

I would appreciate any comments on this photo. Honestly don't
know if I like it or not. At a track meet last weekend I was trying to
push the boundries a little; bored with "safe shots." Any
suggestions on any of my photos welcome. Thanks, JLee
