portrait. The condition of his clothing tells the story of poverty and toil. His facial expression answers that there still can be joy in living. Well done.

capture. Great detail, interesting composition. I am sorry that there isn't a little light in the eye. That would, IMO, put it over the top.

makes me wonder whether you did manage to make the eyes the focus point. The right shoulder seems sharpest on my monitor.

side lighting, good subject, well exposed, and it seems that the eyes were the focus point as they should be. Shallow depth of field and soft focus works well in general but there is s small problem with some parts of the skin tone that seems to keep this from reaching its full potential. In all, it is a photo that fills me with envy. Good work!
  1. I believe that these captures are more difficult than some appreciate. In this image, you matched an even, non-distracting background with a good shot of the main subject and his horse. The light and colors are good. It would be nice to have caught a more interesting expression, but that is largely a matter of chance in this kind of image making. I am not yet comfortable with the rating system, but it seems to me that this has been somewhat under rated.

I find this a spectacular photograph. Impossible to ignore, zooming into your attention. The sense fo motion mixed with the good focus on his face adds up to a superior effort in my book.

I appreciate the choice, but I think a head & shoulders shot would emphasize the strongest points of the photograph. This is not stated with dogmatic confidence.
  2. The cahtedral competes with the foot and vehicular traffic for your full attention; the sun lights the top half while the lower part is in shadow. This kind of subject generates countless snapshots. In order to stand out, I think that something special is needed - a different vantage point, few or no people and more even light.

are very interesting and sharp. I feel that, in this case, the OOF feet/lower legs are distracting and the fact that she is in underwear with see-thru top detracts from the strong points of the image. Just my opinion.
  3. No & No. And yet a 3rd "no" to the knee jerk criticisms of a centered image. While I see no benefit in fawning over this image, I believe that this site that should focus on the unusual merit (or lack of it) as is presented in this photo.
