For personal reasons (I owe a IIIg...) when a IIIg is offered on ebay I always look at final price.

Starting low and NR, final price is always near $800: this happens normally latest 3 or 4 years. Not bad for a naked pre-1960 obsolete and not-so-rare (lovely) film camera.

Leica knows its job, and summicrons are the most wellmade lenses in the world, and are projected to work well at poles as in equator; they are not "sealed" because an expert can open it, but be sure that "normal" use as some drops of water or sweat should not be a problem. If it's so is however better than any other brand. just clean properly lens, and maybe put an uv or skylight filter in order to avoid to scratch and sweat over front lens.

Not so strange... particurarly wirh early models; don't know if it works... but try to keep the time setting in B position when you don't use it. It should switch off the lightmeter... sure true with M6TTL... if not maybe some contacts are oxided, but I've got no idea how to sort out... you may take out batteries and keep them sealed if you don't use them.

I've always thought why Cosina Voigtlander's Koyabashi never realized a cheap Thambar-like lens (300$?) maybe in 500 units: I feel sure that they will be selled quickly and Thambar will be left to collectors' safes. Don't know why...

Price looks nice taking care that DMR is not so easy to find; but leica digital reflex top stuff really is an obsolescence risk: if you are pro and earn the money with sold photos quickly it might have sense: but if not, better look for a digilux2 (now out of stock!) or a near equal Pana Lumix...

Queston is complex as always... If you want to invest your money for incoming years, surely there are better ways than an old film camera (or a car) sure it's better to buy houses or supermarkets quotes; but if you use to LOVE Leicas, you can spend some money over it without bad suffering when years will go... every day I realize that I throw away my money... and sure I haven't still stopped it. Leave me the pleasure to hold my M and listen to its sound... and take it with me when I can please... In the world there are worser habits...

This is a classical ZORKI leica II clone. no chance. ebay fill yourself at $80, Very easy to recognize and military items have on top or on back (plus on lems) number of military order engravings.

everything else are russian copy might also be well done, but abslolutely false.

great images... do you feel too that these ols leicas has some sort of magical whan you take them in hands?

In sad moment as this: everybody is save, no serious health problem and life goes on.....

Everything else is solvable: Not a Tragedy with no way out but a very very very big bad moment. Tume will help you to go cross it, and I hope your future will be brighter. Nothin itreparable, things will get better: I'm sure.

It will be great to have a luminous 35 for digital M, but I'm afraid will cost on the $2500-3000 range considering what is elmar 24/2.8 cost.

Interesting proposal: but keep in mind that italian distributor Polyphoto has still in catalog at bargain prices (summicron 50/2 at 1198 euros VAT included) all 3 screw mount 1999 (price instead of summicron - M has not been modified). I was evaluating in buying one.

I owe an elmar 1958 50/2.8... Is there lot of difference in quality (paid 250$ on ebay).

Last batch screwmount summicron/lux ARE RARE. only a limited number crosses EBAY and prices are always increasing. Much more than corresponding bayonet models.

take an MP hear 1/250 sec shot and find me something as silent. problem solved regarding me...

A Schneider Componon or Rodenstock Rodagon (or El Nikkor too) must be easy to find and do very fine jobs (avoid Componar, Comparon or Rogonar who were cheaper...)

We see specials Leica 0, MP , what we have still to see is a IIIg

It has to do with switching from brass (easily engraving) to zinc (not so but cheaper). brass and engravings came again under the strong request of LHSA.

thinking about 1.33x crop of digital M, probably will became the new 35 (32 precisely) for newer generations. sadly his price is descouraging, but i prefer it to a 28 ( too short or too long for my likes).

Probably sensor parner will be Jenoptik. Upgradable digital componentry will help to conflict obsolescence. 5000$ for a body is the cost a small car.

LHSA had designed most valuable M models, and his responsible in the brass revival and black enamel and hammertone paint. MP3 is a clone for collectors, but gives nothing more than an actual MP. However are among best special items of 17000 Leica made. Not for photos , for them buy lenses instead. I pass.

Living at border of the empire, english is mandatory, now are form the seventies that I try to learn it: best method is to practice it with something you really interested of (songs, books,films, girls).

I use to work on computer and not a single line of manual was written in italian

I've noticed that british english is more difficult. not a matter of days anyway but years.

Ben do you REALLY learn italian? It's a more complex task.

About my question on MP I was curious to know if had some special particular solution inside that makes so desirable, but maybe I understand nothing.

I am still unable to understand what was really different in the

historical Leica MP comparing it with a later Leicavit M2

skyrocketing its price...

The Leicavit base? or is there some hidden feature I don't know? or

is only its rarity as a coin or a stamp?

If manufacturer makes two cheap 24 1:1,4 and 35 1:1.4 digital only who take place of 35 and 50...
