I am relatively new to this site. I have been enjoying the
photography and learning by observation, but have only recently
signed up. I have posted 3 photographs for critique. My questions
revolve around the rating categories of originality and aesthetics.
In trying to be a contributing member and rate appropriately, how
does one take into account subject taste and technical proficiency.
I have seen shots there reasonably original, although frankly
originality is pretty rare, but have some technical flaw such as poor
exposure, lack of sharpness, etc. Also, I for one have seen enough
macro shots of flies, should a person just not rate images whose
subject matter is not to his taste? I guess I am hinting at another
category such as technical proficiency in rating photos. Also, maybe
a comment should be required to rate a photo so the photographer will
have some idea why the rater gave the rating he or she did. Sorry
for the long post.
