I have the 4000 Howtek and silverfast. It is a good combination. Be careful about buying
used
Drum scanners. I purchased mine on e-bay. Buying one from a dealer is probably a better
choice. You will need a mounting station.
The Howtek gives beautiful scans with silverfast and you can run contemporary operating
systems. The problem is learning to wet-mount. It takes a little work. Although I think the
larger film like 8X10 is easier than small film.

All these lenses are good. The issue for me is size of lense and brightness on the ground
glass. Although the f8 Nikkor recommended by others is a good lense it is a little dark on
the ground glass. Both the 4.5 Nikkor and the 5.6 Super-Angulon will give you a large circle.
The XL Schnieder is a large lense. The Grandagon is the smallest and lightest.
The Schneider XL lens may not fit on some field cameras.
