This is unretouched scan of the original transparency. As those familiar with VS100 know, the color rendering of this film is unparalleled. (Please, no slams from Fuji fans. Both Velvia and Provia are excellent films, but comparing Fuji to Kodak is apples to oranges.) The "washed out" appearance is the invariable consequence of digitizing the image. Although some of this can be ameliorated by manipulating the scanned image, the non linear nature of the color loss means the digital image will never have the fidelity or richness of the original photograph. Even with these losses, the image still exhibits a range of colors and textures completely lacking from an image taken with a digital camera.

Wonderful image, but I have to guess that it is staged. The sun can shine from underneath - ie when reflected from water. But that does not appear to be the case here due to the black, featureless background.

A graduated ND filter is really the key for shots like this. Darkening the sky slightly would have brought out a great richness and detail in the cloud shapes.

Poor contrast, poor focus, poor color. If this is an example of the camera's capability, you should look into some other equipment. Apart from the technical aspects, the composition is very offcenter, and somewhat chaotic.

Distracting due to slow shutter speed causing water to blur into an indistinguishable haze. I know that this effect is "popular", but it really detracts from the photo - especially in this case where the majority of the frame is the water.
