  1. On the nights of September 14th, 15th, and 16th, I had an opportunity to volunteer in the World Trade Center disaster recovery. My friend Matt and I worked, primarily with the Salvation Army, to distribute food and aide supplies.

I recorded my impressions of the attacks and of my days as a volunteer in a journal. I have posted it at http://members.bellatlantic.net/~vze2gkrc/ .

At Ground Zero, I had with me a Yashica T4 camera and I shot as much film as I could manage. These are some of those photos. Specific street location info is available in the comments for each image.

The work being done at Ground Zero is strenuous and exhausting, and needs an enormous amount of elbow room. Meanwhile, the city is trying to help daily life grind back up to speed in the streets nearby. These two goals are in conflict. While I support the city's decision to limit public access near the site, I believe by witnessing details unavailable through television the world gains immeasurable understanding of the crime -- slaughter and devastation, not tragedy -- that was done here. Everyone should see for himself and know what resulted. I hope these photos can help in some small way.

    Thank you for viewing.
