1.
I'm trying to do this and somewhere there was a glitch. I downloaded the vuescan and the 4.0.3 vista as instructed and installed them as instructed. Vuescan can see the scanner just fine. But when I tried going back through the Nikon software, it still says there's no device available.

I did have to purchase a different cable because the firewire plug in on the new computer is different. Would that make it not work for me?

 2.
Does this site have a place where I could list equipment that was recently stolen from me? (They took everything! For the first time in 40 years I have no camera!). It occurs to me that this site reaches a lot of camera enthusiasts as well as people in the marketplace and perhaps they could be on the lookout for my stuff.

Thanks for responding.

 3.
I recently suffered a burglary. Although they didn't take my Nikon Coolscan 9000, they did steal the PC that had the required special plug in in it. So, now, in order to use my scanner I would need the plug in. Are they available? Does anyone have one they are no longer using they would sell me? If not, is there a really good replacement for the Coolscan 9000? If you have used another scanner that works as well as that one does, I'd really like to hear from you.
The burglars didn't steal my negatives, but they did steal all of my storage units on which I had the digital copies stored. So, if I can rescan my negs, I'll still be somewhat in business with my photos and not have to totally start all over again!
Thanks for replying.

 4.
I'd like to jump in here with a similar question. I worked on an image in CS5 and printed it. I didn't touch the color balance at all. After I got LR3, I tried reworking the same image (starting with the untouched original). Again, I did not touch the color balance. I was doing things like bringing ut detail in the highlights, etc. My PS is set to RGB 1998, and I exported the LR image as RGB 1998. The PS image had a lot more red in it. The LR image is purely yellow with almost no red tones in the rocks at all. Is this normal? Do I need to add red in LR to get the color I'm used to getting from PS?

 5.
I actually had this similar type of occurrence once when printing a lot of pictures. It was as though my printer had an absolute melt-down. I simply shut off the printer AND the computer, waited a couple of days and went back to it. Printed fine. I never did figure out why it happened, but apparently it was something to do with overloading the transmittal between the computer and the printer.

 6.
Thanks to all of you for responding. I'm going to try to answer to all of you. First, trying to use two cameras during a 17-second race isn't practical. I have four cameras and a multitude of lenses, but it's just not practical.
I shoot the race from the starting gate to the wire, firing about 20 frames, and need the 350 to get to the gate and the 35 to get that outside horse at the wire when he's right in front of me. Granted, if I had loads of money I could buy my dream camera - the 1d mark 4 and get the 350 length. But that is out of the question financially. So is purchasing a new lens that won't do the job. And, the work I do actually requires that I be able to produce un-retouched negs!
I talked to Canon early on in this problem, and they were of no help other than to direct me to a local fix-it place. He cleaned the lens and called it working. It did - for a few rolls of film.
What I'm really looking for, I guess, is someone with the same experience who got their lens fixed. Where and how much.

 7.
I have been using a Canon 35-350 lens on an EOS-3 body for about 7 years to photograph horse racing. Last fall the lens started to fail to focus. I had it and the camera cleaned at a local repair shop, and the shop owner said the focusing problem was "fixed." However, it still fails from time to time. Has anyone else had this problem with this lens, and is it fixable? I love this lens. Or is there an economical replacement lens? I need the 350 to get to the starting gate. And I need the 35 or close to it to get those outside horses when they win! I have a 70-300, and the 70 is too long and the 300 doesn't quite cut it.

 8.
I would cover the life of a racehorse from birth to death. They are so precious and funny and proud, and I would want to capture all of the personality of the horse, his ups and downs, his triumphs and failures, and how he interacted with the people in his life. To do this, I would want my dream camera - the EOS1D Mark IV. I already have all the lenses I need.

 9.
I have an older version of the Prime film scanner. I was really happy with it until about a year ago. Windows apparently made some change in their operating system that put it out of commission. I had to download new drivers, and I don't like the way it works now. Some negs and slides come out fine. Others are horrible and no amount of fixing in PS works. It's actually better on slides than on film.
If all you're doing is making 4x6's, and you don't mind playing in PS, it will work well - albeit slowly!

 10.
I'm a photographer and a bookkeeper and I do taxes. If you conduct your business as a "sole proprietarship" under your Social Security number, it's really easy to do in Turbo Tax. If you have a separate EIN for the business, but it's not a corporation, you can still run it as a Schedule C business on your personal tax. If it's a corp, then you'll need to file a separate report for the business. Since you're used to Turbo Tax, I recommend that you invest in the "business" version of TT and simply use its instructions to guide you. I wouldn't pay the cost of a CPA unless it's really complicated. I've actually found the software to be more reliable and more accurate than most CPA's!

 11.
I'm an avid Antelope Cyn. fan! The normal "photo" tours of the upper canyon are about 3 hours. It's very open and touristy, and you have to wait for groups to get out of your way - unless you're really rude! And don't ever go on a weekend! I'd plan on spending a lot of hours at the lower canyon. It's much less crowded, and I think you can get better pictures there that aren't like everyone else's. In my collection of images, the favorites are by far the ones taken at lower Antelope - because they're different.
My first visit was a 1-day thing. My second visit was a 2-day, with 1 day in upper AC and 1 day in lower AC.

 12.
Actually, this is a question. I have the Pacific 1800 (I think). It has worked fine untl about 3 months ago. Gave me really good scans for posting to webites and printing small prints. I use Adobe Photoshop 6.0. All of a sudden, I can't import images through my scanner. I reloaded the scanner software. Didn't help. I get a memo that says something about the import module. Any ideas? I've looked for my PS6.0 disc to reload it, and can't find it.

 13.
Hi, Christal. Be sure to include the Boyce Thompson Arboretum in your travels of Arizona. It's located east of Phoenix on US 60 near Superior. Also, the 60 east all the way to Globe is a very scenic drive. April is usually prime time at the Arboretum, where you can see native plants without doing miles of hiking!
