  1. Thanks for your responses and help. I don't have originals up but I do have large size available. I will go change that right now. Do I have to put the copyright and text across the middle or are the people who will take them smart enough to crop a copyright across the bottom off before taking them to be printed? I just hate having to make people look through text to see their images.
  2. How do you keep people from copying your pictures off of smugmug and printing

them themselves? I have all of mine right click protected but I have avoided

using watermarks until now because I hate the way they look. However, I just

found out that people are stealing photos off of my site and printing them

themselves. What am I missing or do I have to go to watermarking?

    Thanks!

  3. I shot one last summer. The parents wanted a formal session in a garden with all of the attendants. I shot individuals of her, she and her date, family, attendants etc. I took a few details shots. She received a ring and necklace from her parents- and an embroidered Bible. There were all part of the service earlier.

I think you need to ask the parents if they want coverage for the whole event or just formal pictures.

  4. Please let me know what you think of these cards. I use the sports ones at the

event and it will have their gallery and password on them. The black ones I am

planning as my generic business card.

    Thanks,

  5. Do you have a signed contact for charity events? I am doing two this April.

ONe is a walk a thon. I am photographing it for the charity it supports and

giving them a disk of images to use for promotions. Any profit on print sales

will also go to the organization. The second is a charity ball. All print sale

profits go to the charity organization. I will also probably be donating a

portrait packaged to be raffled. Both events are connected through friends and

we have spoken agreements. Is it still recommended to have a written contract?

  6. I use it and like it a lot. I found a bit of a learning curve but not terrible. My only complaint was that I couldn't figure out a way to include photo files that were not presented in the slide show. But that's not a huge deal. All around- a good product
  7. I just shot my last wedding in RAW+ basic jpeg. There are many photos that need

no editing- the basic jpeg is great. However, the basic jpeg is not a large

enough file to make prints obviously. When I go to convert my NEF RAW files in

CS2 they do not come up with the same color and tone as the basic jpeg of the

same print. On several batch files where I just converted them, CS2 chose very

bad color and exposure. Do I have a setting wrong or am I missing something?

Why are my basic jpegs straight from the camera looking better than my RAW files

and why do my RAW files change when I convert them?

  8. I have this photo that I really like and want to put up on the wall. I have a

16x20 frame that I would like to use. THe problem is, I can't find a way to

crop it that I like. I love the way the trail draws you to the homestead...but

if I keep that in the corner, I lose part of the fence. I am flexible about the

size to crop to. I have an 11x14 matte but am willing to adjust. Any cropping

    suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  9. Thanks for all of your help and advice! I will let you know what they think of the proofs. I upped the contrast a bit and was pleased with the results. There is still SOOO much for me to learn- but that's the fun in this field! I appreciate the time you all have given to help me on the way.

  10. Thanks for all of your input. Marc- a little bit of contrast is wonderful!

I have another question: When editing (as in culling through pictures to pick the best) what do you do with pictures that aren't up to par? Also, what do you do with pictures that are good but didn't make the # cut. I shoot digital and have not yet deleted any pictures for fear of wishing I had them later. However, eventually I am going to run out of space and it seems silly to keep pictures that I won't ever use. What is your policy?

  11. I recently shot a quinceanera. The shots were done at a local park and the

lighting was beautiful...(which was amazing). I'm happy with the way the pics

turned out but I feel weird leaving a lot of them un-edited. I did some bw

conversions and played around with a few others. I did a few touch ups on pics

that needed them. Is it ok to leave the rest straight from the camera? I'm

attaching one of the photos that I would leave alone. Do you agree or should I

do more with this pic? I appreciate your suggestions in advance!

  12. Bob, I already have a step ladder that will now be coming with me to future weddings. That was a great suggestion!

Lisa, I am working on getting my programs to work together and number the same way- I think I have it just about figured out. About the groom's hand in his face...that was a running joke between the groom and his friends so it was part of the original agreement that I take some poses with his hand up. He was actually very good about cooperating and every shot with the hand, there is one without. So, it was actually kind of entertaining to take and he certainly enjoyed it.
