  1. Richard , The 50-500 is the lens that is always on my camera. I have no problems at all with it. I shoot it wide open mostly at 200-400 iso. I find it ever so slightly soft at 500 so if I think of it I back down to 480. I always use a rest of some sorts but Have gotten Good flight shots swinging it hand held. I only use the single area focus on it (hope I said that right)so it focuses on what I want it to. I have used it with the D70 and the D200 with equal success. You may have a bad one. Good Luck Bob
  2. Mike ,I shot(i hate saying that)this with a D200 apiture priority ,50-500 sigma lens at f6.5 at 500mm . It was taken at 5:35 in the evening sun had been down for 1/2 hour so I used the built in D200 flash. I only had 4 good frames out of 20 cause of slow shutter speed this one was at 1/60sec ,even with a tree for a rest , but as usual with these things there is no time to set things up right. but I'm happy with what I got.I'll probibly never see another one,(or it will turn into a pest I cant get rid of) Bob
  3. Well, I downloaded bouth virsons and frankly ,"DO you think they could make them any SLOWER" I mean give me a break they are slower than dialup. how the heck could anyone get any work done with them.I could learn to paint faster then them. and add the fact that after working on one photo NX crashed on me .I cant belive Nikon put out this kind of crap. I'll stick with RawShooter. Thanks for all the input. If you ever get to Montana I've always got a pot of coffee on the stove (fresh every day) See ya
  4. I am using Rawshooter priemum to process my NEF files and it does a nice job ,

but sometimes it dosent quite get it. I want to try Nikons converter, Do I get

Just Capture 4. or Capture NX , I am happy with the photo manipulating I am

using now (Picture Window + Paintshop)I just want Nikons nef processor. Thank

    You Bob O'Leary Lincoln Montana

  5. I've been shooting NorthernLights for a long time and have found that film beats Digi hands down. I have 2 OM1's and an F2 all with 28mm lense. Put them on tripods ,set to Bulb. use cable release and alternate 20 and 30 second exposures. As for film I dont know what to tell you I'm still using my (now dwindling)frozen supply of PPF 400. Have about 100 rolls left should last me a while here in Montana. Keep it simple is my moto. Northern lights are fun and easy. One sugestion try to include a tree , coroner of the house , or something else in the shot to give some perspective to the shots. Good Luck, Bob O'Leary Lincoln Montana. And as Jack Horhimer says KEEP LOOKING UP<div>00HdP6-31721584.thumb.jpg.3daf169ccb06ec430f75493f9197ae09.jpg</div>
  6. Josh , I had the sigma 170-500 and sold it to upgrade to the 50-500 and am I glad I did.the 170-500 was almost unusable in very bright light situations, ghosting was terible. that said I absolutly love the 50-500 no ghosting and twice as sharpe. also faster(and quiter) autofocus.A very nice lense. now if I could just swing the 300-800 I would be a happy boy. it disapered from the list. And now I cant find one anywhere, anyone know why

    they disapeared. Thanks Bob

  8. Thanks Don, That completly sliped my mind. I'll use my Cabelas points for One. Speaking of cabelas All you wildlife and nature photogs should look at the Turkey hunting vests Lots of big pockets and a fold down waterproof coushion to sit on. I find them very handy
  9. Does any one know where I can get a battery charger that plugs into a

cigerette lighter for these new EN-EL3e batteries. That dosent cost

an arm and a leg. Thank You Bob

  10. Greg you should have offered him a print of the bird . I find that gets me on all sorts of places here. And belive me we have our share of thick heads (I'm being polite). You will be surprised the people who will let you on their ground to take pictures as oposed to those who wont let you hunt or fish. And some times the photos will get me on later to hunt and fish
