1.
John, that's an interesting point... I thought about this upgrade for my M6TTL a couple of years ago, when the MP came out. Finally, I never did it.
Will the difference be that noticeable? For the M6 VF is really flare-prone in some conditions...

  2.
Hi Constantin,
In 1971, there was no way to produce a TTL M-camera but to make it as they did - big and ugly. So what do we have?
1. The camera was technically advanced for the time - it isn't today.
2. It was big and ugly in 1971 - and still is.

So why buy it? Unless you are a collector, buy an M6 (or an M6TTL) for shooting.
The M3 is a beautifully designed camera, it is a classic; and classic means constancy in perfection... Anything that disrupts those graceful lines won't work. An M6TTL was only 2,5 mm taller, but put an MP aside and you'll see what 2,5 mm can mean...

PS If absolutely you want an M5 for shooting, check the metering mechanism (it has a moving cell which comes up every time you cock the shutter) - repairs might be very expensive or even not feasible at all...

  3. Feli,

This is a crucial point indeed: if Zonnar is weaker wide-open, then I'll probably return to the Summilux pre-asph.

    Matthew,

I had a Cron, the latest one. F2 is not enough for me, and the lens itself is too flare-prone.

  4. I've hade the 50 'Lux. A bit soft wide-open; my 35/1.4ASPH is much better in this respect, but without any "clinical" sharpness people sometimes complain about.

What I'm thinking about is to get a Zeiss 1.5, if it is a bit sharper and a bit more homogenous from coner to coner then the pre-asph lux. (I'm not thinking of the 50ASPH for the moment).

  5. Any one knows a commendable side-by-side comparison between the Summilux 50

pre-asph, latest, and the new 1.5 Zeiss for Ikon?

What's the difference between the lenses at full aperture? Closed down?

    Thanks in advance,

    Leo

  6. The shutter speed dial is not M6TTL, but M6 "classic". Sorry, but this is evidence.

What intrigues me moste is (exept the price, of course) the body covering. At a first glance, this is VULCANIT!!! I heard somewhere that this vulkanit is not the same that it used to be at Leica golden age. Sort of a "fake-vulkanit", wich appears to be rather a banal leatherette... Bill, can you confirm this?

  7. Hello Bill,

There's obviously a new top-plate, but the shutter speed dial is not a full-metal one, like on the MP. The lens-release botton is also the same as the normal M6...

By the way, what's the "à la carte" price, excluding viewfinder upgrade?...

    Regards,

    Leo
