  1. Hi!

I'm in need of a 2nd shooter for a Saturday May 31, 2008 wedding in the Seattle

area, and potentially more depending on how things go.

If interested please e-mail me describing your experience and include an online

portfolio or resume (resume does not need to be photography specific) if

available. Photographer must have professional experience as a 1st or 2nd

    shooter.

    Thanks!

  2. Hey everybody!

Just curious to know, how silly do some of you get with large family +

extended family formals? :) Sure, waving hands in the air, make funny faces,

etc... but anything really goofy? Everybody make mickey mouse ears? (big

cheese!) :D Any samples to share?

    Thanks!

  3. Hey folks, has anybody tried using a Vagabond battery/inverter with monolights

other than White Lightnings or Alien Bees? I hear certain units may not work

because the Vagabond's AC output is current limited and 'voltage sag' can

cause the inverter to shut down momentarily during recyle time. Although not

recommended, Vagabond says they've heard of customers using Dynalites and

    Profotos with success.

    Thanks!

  4. Sorry to ask a Canon vs Nikon question here (I shoot Nikon myself), but can somebody comment on skin tones between the 1D and D2x/D200? i haven't found any links on this.

    thanks,

  5. Thanks for the responses everyone.

From what I gather, I want tack sharp (gotta love those tack sharp full size 10.2mp RAWs on the D200) and will have to click down and leave wide-open for available lighting work. I had the 50 and 85 opened up for some outdoor distance portraits and noticed that they all looked a little soft and hazy. I'm well aware of the 'stop down a few clicks for the sharpest point' but have never really taken the time to sit down and perform detailed test shots of all the lenses at wide open before (yikes)! The softness hasn't bothered me before... I must be getting picky! :)

    Thanks!

  6. Hey all,

Just curious to know, what f-stop do you typically use for outdoor

    portraiture when using a Nikon 50 1.4/1.8 or 85 1.4 (I don't have an

    85 1.8)?

What's your opinion of picture contrast and sharpness when shooting

wider than 2.5 in good lighting with any of these lenses? Is it me

or do the pictures just loose too much sharpness and look somewhat

    hazy?

    Thanks!

  7. Hello all,

I'm shooting a wedding on Friday where the mother of the groom's

side has just passed away a little over a week ago. She was

terminally ill and entered the hospital another week before. It's a

very sad moment but I will do my best to cheer them up to bring out

    the best of the moment.

This puts me in a situation I haven't experienced before. My

question is: how would this alter your formal pictures? I always

have a bride+groom+parents formal. Would you personally direct a

photo of the bride+groom+father in this case or skip the picture?

    Thanks!

  8. Both my Sandisk Extreme III 4gbs had the same problem in either of my D200s. What worked for me was to format both cards using the format menu option instead the two button method. After formatting the cards through the menu the first time, I can format using the two buttons just fine.
  9. Hello!

The event coordinator from the country club that I took photos for a

friend's wedding contacted me today about using several of my photos

    for display on their website.

Should I charge for the photos or just be happy with the name

recognition? This is very popular place to have weddings and their

will be plenty of traffic. If I charge, how much? And what sort of

    agreement should there be?

    Thanks so much for advice!!!

  10. I had a similar situation and went with the 17-55. The only time I missed the 55-70 gap was once and that was for a landscape shot. If I went any further I'd fall off the edge of the cliff. :) I think the 17mm wide-end is critical for weddings. I see quite a few 1DMII wedding photogs use the 28-70 but those are full frame cameras (17-55 on a D70 = 25.5 - 82.5).
  11. Are there any major differences between the P-2000 and P-4000 aside from the storage space and additional memory cards (with adapter)? I'm going to stop buying overpriced CF cards and get one right away!! How long does it take to offload a 1-2GB card?
  12. >I've also had this problem where my D70 will say it's in focus (green focus light is lit) but the camera refuses to fire.

I believe this is the problem that's being confused with AF speed. This will happen in "P" & "S" modes but not in "M" or "A" mode. I can't explain why this happens, but I know I've been dinged by it a few times when I've inadvertently knocked my dial to "S" or "P".

    ----

I think I've just lied in my previous post. I believe Tim is correct in that it only occurs in program and shutter priority modes.

  13. First I want to say, wow! I've been on photo.net for a while now and this being my first forum post ever, I am pleasantly surprised with the number of helpful responses. I'll definitely have to subscribe now.

In short (no opinions on this decision please), I will wait for the D200 and perform a side by side comparision with the D2X and go from there. Since I'm finally starting to charge for my work, it will be a *little* less painful to cough up the dough (ouch). Ideally I'd have two of the same bodies but perhaps the D70 will become the backup. Nikon has suggested that I send the camera in for my AF lockup issue. I also forgot to mention that I once had a problem with the mirror not resetting correctly causing the image in the viewfinder to display slightly higher than what the camera would capture.

    To answer some questions below:

    - The AF problems occur in any mode P/A/S/M

    - I am locked-in to use the center AF point and none of the other four points

    - I am shooting low-light weddings (I prefer not to use flash when possible) and events in big dark auditoriums. My style is photojournalist and perhaps I'm not anticipating moments as well as I could be but things happen so quickly and when I'm dead on the subject ready to fire (AF green light is lit!) the D70 doesn't go! I want shoot myself (gun not camera) when this happens. Sometimes I will be quick enough to flip the AF/M switch to manual focus and capture the moment but I am often too late - we're talking split second moments here and many times moving toward/away from me. No telling people to stop for a photo or repose here, they are gone forever.

    - I have the latest 2.00 firmware loaded

    - I am always using AF-S mode

    - I've read the manual :)

    - I play video games well so my hand-eye coordination is good? (just kidding, had to throw that in)

    - My problems do occur with a fully charged battery

    Thanks all and Happy Thanksgiving!

  14. Hi,

I've missed a countless number of once in a liftime shots with my

D70 simply because the camera wasn't able to focus quick enough.

Will upgrading to a D2H/D2X (or the new D200!) allow my lenses to

focus that much faster? I'm mainly using the 17-55F2.8, 50F1.8,

85F1.4, and 70-200F2.8. How about in low lighting? The D70 really

    seems to struggle.

I've also had this problem where my D70 will say it's in focus

(green focus light is lit) but the camera refuses to fire. I

refocus and try again but still no luck. Turning the camera off and

on or refocusing on a different subject usually unlocks the camera.

Is it time to send the camera in for service?

    Thanks!
