Now it's time for sigma to step in with art UWA for 2/3 or half price and to cut the sales.

<p>In manual with auto iso I set f and time, camera sets iso according to metering. Currently I can't override exposure set by camera with exposure compensation. I wish I could sometimes. To be in full manual I have to set iso myself (not on auto). </p>

T stop not the stop. Auto correction :-)

It's used wide open. Question remains about
real light transmission called The stop. For
example 24-105LIS f4 is T5.

I would consider getting D800 and do not switch. Money wise at least. You can always use mraw or smaller size jpg if you do not like full
36mpix output. You will loose on switching and you may be let down by canons ergonomics or something finally. And 6D as good as it is will be no better then D600 for your usage, if not worse with tracking abilities.

Bob it's a grest program. Probably only one in it's kind. You should consider version for ios and
android - everything I found can do only dof and hf distance. I would happily pay a few dollars
for having such a nice tool all the time in my pocket.

Macro should work. Wide will work but not from and 11mm and will vignette badly.l Google it.

It is betrayal but take a look at the dark side as well
(nikon). It seems that they are better value for money
now.

Sorry for multiple post, please mod

I do not like such strong effect, how
would look like natural setting?

Why 30d is 3 points worse then 20d?
Same sensor, better body? Maybe they
think cameras are like wine?

<p>Dan, he said: >I find 35 mm is a fine lens, but for portature I tend to 50 mm.<<br /> So 35mm on a full frame may be to short for him.<br /> I'd go with 7d & 35mm f1.4 as a one body - one lens solution.</p>

<p>Canon is better. But quality drops after 200mm towards 300 as well. In this focal range sigma 100-300 f4 has opinion of the best IQ. But it's more expensive as I recall. Will 70-200 f4L not IS be long enough for you? it's one of the best zooms period.</p>

<p>Can you possibly use the composite video out cable to a tv to view the menu? (assuming the 20d has such a cable).<br>
(This is just an idea, no idea if it will actually work).</p>
<p>It should work well if only really your lcd screen is broken, not a video circut or whatever responsible for image/menu rendering.</p>
-
<p>"My general rule, though, is that if a used item is more than 50% or so as expensive as the same item new, I buy the item new."</p>
<p>With a lens like this forget about 50% unless it is a piece of junk. They tend to be even up to 90%. Some even much more then where new, like 200 f1.8.<br>
I would triple check everything. It isn't pocket change.</p>
-
<p>You compare fast primes to zoom. Not fair.<br>
Macro 100 2.8 beats most L-zooms and mayby even a few L-primes in image quality.</p>
-
You can shoot in raw, then upscale. You will end with softer image with lesser detail, but without visible pixels.

Are U going to sell 17-85? If so get 17-40 or 17-55 2.8 IS (depends if U see full frame or not in a foreseeable future). If not 10-22 will nicely fill wider end covering 17-22 mm which is the worst part of focal length of 17-85.
Sorry for my poor English.
Yours Dariusz

High ISO performance is impressive. 12800 looks better than 1600 on my 20D. 25600 is like 3200 on 20D. And this are jpegs stright from the camera!
Time to start save money.

It has been answered and discussed millions times (search), but only you can make final decision based on yours
preferences. I had same problem. I put range and IS over L, but now I would get quality over features.
Maybe it will help you.

The 5D combo hands down. The only area where 40D wins is lesser barrel distortion at the wide end.
But do you really need such an equipment to your tasks?
I doubt, but soon tasks may change...

Will you buy a full frame camera in next few years? If yes 16-35 if not 10-22 or 17-55 IS f2.8. It depends on field of view that you need.
Looks like Canon mirrorless fans will be disapointed (again)
