By the way, I've become more confused so ... this is the one I was talking about.
http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-BRIGHT-FRESNEL-FOR-ROLLEIFLEX_W0QQitemZ7540466877QQcategoryZ29976QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem I don't really know if this one match any of your answer due to the lack of my knowledge :) Please, this is simply stupid question, should I take it? It's not as expensive as Beattie ones and the quality also outrace but that's what I'm expecting from it. Don't want pricey equipment for my MX-EVS anyway (spent to much already as a student :)
What do you think about this? Thanks a lot
-
Well, I just experienced using it upside down when I went on rooftop of the building yesterday to take the birdeye view of Bangkok. There was some kind of concrete wall (preventing suicidal?), it was high enough to uncomfort MF shooter with no prism (about 1.4-1.6 metres). That's what make me do it and, ouch, it hurts my neck.
-
Is this gonna cause any problem? It doesn't sound right to me just
drop the new one on top of the old one...wouldn't it slip out some how
(or when you turn it upside down)? Also my old Rolleiflex screen is
quite old, dusty, dropping the new one on top shouldn't make that much
improvement as expected, right?
Please give me any suggestion, I'm making a final decission on buying
a new screen because the old one starts giving difficulties in many
situations ...
Thanks a lot

Have anyone suffered using Rolleiflex's original focusing screen?
Well, I hadn't until my brother's present, Seagull WWSC-120, arrived.
I know that the build quality or optic are not to mentioned but its
focusing screen ... it's bright, from corner to corner.
That's why I came up with a question for myself, do I need a new
focusing screen for my Rolleiflex? And this question, I believe, is
your burden as long as I could say I'm new to this :)
What do you think?
Should I get a new Fresnel Focusing Screen from eBay, it'll cost me
around $40 plus shipping to Thailand?
That's actually not a question but two, sorry :) Thanks for your time!

Well, I have to admit that there's not much choice here in my situation and especially in my country where Rolleiflex and other MFs are rich people's hobby while I'm not one of em. The best repairman will cost too much for a student :) It's okay for the situation.
Thanks anyway, if you have any suggestion, please do not hesitate, I'll do my best

"This is clearly not right. The escapement doesn't sound like its position on the oblong holes was properly adjusted. Synchro Compur?"
Synchro Compur, Yes :) Well, it's doesn't sound right but the others work just fine, no noticeable flaw but 1/15 and 1/30. I guess he just switched some kinda gears in the camera (if the mechanic is as simple as I thought :)
Have you ever heard of the symptom? Thanks
-
Oh well, I think the 1/15 and 1/30 are ... not supposed to be like this. The 1/15 looks and sounds faster than 1/30... Only two of these has problem. Any idea?

According to this thread
http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=00DDDo
I can't believe it ... it sounds so nice, very crisp and accuracy. I
don't know what this repairman did to it, maybe just wind the crank
and fire about ten thousands times, I don't know.
Oh...I'm sure he open up the front panel cuz the leatherette has some
damage more than before I sent it in.
I love it anyway :)
-
Well, I got the point Larry. It's very humid here in Thailand so ... you maybe correct.
Anyway, thanks for sharing

Well, unfortunately, I don't think I'll get a good chance of having my Rolleiflex back. The shutter delay, at first, start rotting from 1 sec., later, 1/15 sec. before I have it sent to the local camera shop. Luckily the shop I bought this one has 3 months warranty provided. So, they'll take care of it for free. Then again, before they sold me this I believe they've checked it before ... sadly, I think it'll be gone forever this time.
Any suggestion about the shutter stuck? Thanks ...
-
This is one of the place in Silom, the most crowded road of Bangkok.
I took this one two or three days ago before the shutter went ...
wrong. It all, under 1/15, went sluggish.

Mr. Ryan Davis, please email me for what you wanna know about Thailand :) here kronix@truemail.co.th Maybe we can go out together taking photographs
-
He gets to have a lot of students, assistants. Don't worry :)

-
Sorry ... :)
By the way, I'm no native speaker :)
-
I don't really get your idea Don and I'm not trying to defend Mr. Surat. But what I'm saying is ...
Wider you mind ... he only has one for each model :) It's right to do this. You could come visti later, I believe he's establishing the museum.
FREE TRADE, isn't it what you emphasized? He's not stealing it from one another :) and it's good to know that someone's taking good care of these classic cameras which you guys and I love.
Pardon me if I didn't get your point. My English is not that fluent :) and no offense here

Ian, this forum has nothing to do with Panthip Plaza which sells IT stuffs (indeed, illegal softwares). I don't know the exact address of his place but guess it's some where around Sukhumvit which is around the university his family established. Not just the university but also a well known drugs company, Osothsapa, which is equal to international ones his family owned. These are the reasons beside his passion for the camera.

Check this out ... this is some (of millions) of his work : http://www.rama9art.org/artisan/2002/january/vanishing/
You could search thru the net using this keywords "Vanishing Bangkok" or "SURAT OSATHANUGRAH"
Have a nice day!
ps. I especially like the gold Rolleiflex (Aurum?). I believe he has all models of Leica (which I'm not interested) but that...it's saying that he has all Rolleiflex :) The thing is, he's not just a rich collector but he's also a master of photography. So don't think all these cameras are just for showing off. He uses it :) And the other thing is ... I don't personally know him but I respect him as a photographer, not a collector.
-
Todd, when you get to Thailand, call me okay? I'll see you then :)
and don't worry ... this guy is a professor ... he has tons of students who could be his assistant firing all the camera once a week or so :) He also have loads of great great pictures ... I'll post them later. I think he uses Hasselblad nowadays :)
-
See it for yourself ... they're all belong to Thailand's Photography
Master and Professor, Surat Osathanukroh (sorry if wrong spelling).
All the classic cameras live here in Thailand
http://www.pantip.com/cafe/gallery/topic/G1953242/G1953242.html
The language is Thai so please have a look at all the pictures ...
sorry if someone's posted this before.
Thanks :)

So...that's the only, isn't it? Can I wash it with water?
-
Mine is very dusty ... now I take it out already so your helpful
answer is urgently needed :)
-
Mr. Kovacs, I don't really understand your answer :) Please explain it a bit more clearly cause my english is not so good :) So you're saying that Rolleiflex is addictive? and ... What's your first classic camera, Mike? hehe
Why should I call my rolleiflex K4B? Well, it's like ... well, easily I want to just clearly state what my model is ... but it caused a lot confusion, didn't it?

Hey, I'm in Bangkok, Thailand. Email me if you want some more information about my country (and some political chaos right about now) and, indeed, the cameras. I'd love to help or meet you up to show something.
See you here ;D
