Jim,
I actually recently purchased a 400mm f/4 DO IS USM lens. This picture was taken with that lens and the 1.4x (version 1) extender.
Thanks Kathy!

Thanks Grayham. I was searching for a Gyrfalcon that had been spotted a few days earlier. I did not have any luck, but this Red-tailed Hawk did brighten an otherwise dull day.

Out testing my new lens and found this cooperative hawk on a fencepost.

Jim,
Thanks for your comment. My picture is full-frame from my 5D Mark II, no cropping. It was the best of the three nights I ventured forth to capture these elusive streaks of light. I looked at your meteor and it is nice. Fortunate to get it between the clouds. I was fortunate to have a cloudless sky and was 4100 ft above sea level with no light pollution (high desert in Oregon).

Thanks Craig,
I have tried capturing the Perseid Meteor Shower for years and only ever came away with faint streaks that were not worthy of posting. This is straight from the camera with only a raw conversion. Shot with the 5DMkII, 17-40mm @ ISO1600 and 15 second shutter speed. Got a few more that evening, but none as nice as this.

I normally shy away from taking pictures of strangers. I could not
resist this musician though.

This was a quick grab of a shot staged by a bunch of college kids. I thought it was ingenious and felt compelled to capture it unique beauty. It was taken with my 100-400mm lens at 235mm and f/5, not really allowing enough DOF.
Thanks for you comments.

Angry weather at Crater Lake. It was snowing in July.

A Pelican stopped by Fernhill Wetlands for lunch. It was raining
fairly hard and the shot is noisy, but it is neat to see the
silhouette of lunch in his/her throat pouch.
