  1. I am considering to upgrade my XT for the 5D but find only minor differences

between the two other than $2,000.00 more for the 5D.

I am considering to upgrade for the following reasons:

    1) 1:1 ratio on the 5D rather than 1.6x to the Rebel. I like shooting wide

    angles.

    2) 50 and 3200 ISO extra in the 5D. Have slave lighting including the 580

    3) 12.8 meg for 5D instead of 8. I do produce large prints

    4) More frames per burst

    5) 5D is a larger body for my big hands to feel comfortable

Are there any other items I've missed to determine which camera is better?

  2. I recently purchased an L series lense, 16-35mm from an online dealer called

cameraexpress. Very weary of the store since I got my lense so I was

wondering if anyone has heard about this store and its reputation.

They insisted inm e purchasing a knock version of the lense, tried mixing me

up with the sales price worst, did not send my warranty card in the box so I

was unable to redeem a rebate.

Anyway hope to hear from someone

  3. Mike, I have a transmitter slaved to the strobes about 500 watts.

Anyway, I took the pic the other day of about 14 people using the gear listed. I positioned all 3 strobes aligned together as well as the group. The camera settings were 1/60, f11, ISO 400, custom WB and positioned camera and strobes about 13' away.

    The picture was great.

  4. I am an amateur requesting set up and photo shoot guidance for large family

    and group portrait picture.

My Equipment is Canon Rebel XT with 16-35 mm type L lens, 2 studio strobe soft

boxes, and a third strobe with an umbrella bounce. Tripod, computer laptop

with digital lab and in a room about 20' x 20'.

My camera setting is shutter 60, aperture 11, iso 400, white balance is

automatic and I find using full powered umbrella FALL light and 1/2 power fill

soft boxes the picture is no as clear or pristine when I use 580ex bounce

    flash.

    What can you suggest?

  5. Kevin,

    Personally indoors i shoot 800 iso with a hot shoe flash 2 stops, f 8, shutter 800 - 125

    Outdoor Sunny: 200 - 400 iso around f11 and 160 shutter

    cloudy 400 iso, f8 f125

make sure you manually set a white balance setting for each different change in space. Compared to automatic white balnce, you can notice the diference

  6. I heard the 550 is discontinued. So your choice might be narrowed down. I came across the 580 (I own the 420), I'm going to upgrade because you have more flash control and I don't think you have as much with a 550. Mainly you can adjust the power of the flash against your subject reducing the risk of hotspots. What is another thing you may consider with the 5 series though is a soft box. The power of those flashes are better sitributed. Good Luck!

    Ciao,

    Ric
