Is you a good one observador. Pity that has been forgot of writing its opinion upon my photograph. Looking at well, seeing it several times, will finish pleasing him
That clarifies things....

Notice the size of the footprint on the sand. It is roughly the size of his entire leg below the knee. That's impossible. Shadows can only appear to be the same size, or larger than the object creating them.

Edward, thanks for the constructive criticism.
Let's take a look at it with the boat in the lower right...I liked the wake behind the boat and the feeling of space I got with the boat in the middle. I think I needed the island behind the boat to keep the entire picture from being a blue/gray blur. That said I kind of like it with the boat in the corner too.
This picture was taken before sun-up on a cloudy misty day. The original scene was very flat. I looked at the original slide. There is more color in the original--some on the boat and some on the island in the background. (I scanned with a Minolta Scan Dual.) But part of me enjoys the feeling the lack of color in this image conveys. I've read a number of threads around here that seem to imply you're not going to get substantially more depth of color unless you buck up for a drum scanner. Which at $100k isn't a realistic option.
