  1. We know that the L series seem to be the king of Canon's line of

lenses. What would be the next in line to include all the way down to

the bottom of the barrel? I am not referring to the size in mm, but

the model type, i.e. L, USM, IS...

You now have permission to speak. :)

  2. Problem resolved!

I found that Windows Installer was not running as an automatic service. Therefore, msiexec.exe was not running. Once I started Windows Installer and reboot the computer, I connected the camera, placed it to the first ON position and the application started.

Thanks again for your great advise. I think I will get a card reader anyway.

    Have a great day!

  3. Yeah, I was in the 20d menu a few days ago and might have accendentially changed something, so I will check the Communications.

I've done all the typical troubleshooting I can think of. Rebooted many times. I only have one USB device and that is for my wireless lan. It works fine. I did also notice that my Adobe Acrobat is not printing anymore. So there are two applications that are not working correctly. Have tried to reload ZoomBrowser but it failed. I have to completely uninstall the previous version. I might do that anyway.

I'm thinking that a driver, or drivers, have been bumped out by the Veritas RecordNow software. I'll try the suggestions mentioned. Thanks.

Now, recommend a card reader? I'll do a search on that one. Thanks!

  4. Maybe I should just go with a card reader. Now would be a good time to invest in one.

Its funny. My PC does not even recognise the camera is connected. I move the power switch to the first ON position as I've always done. A popup (not windows, but canon) application appears and I can either download all or select which images to download. It does not do that anymore. I think it stopped around the time I loaded Veritas RecordNow CD burning software.

My PC does not even see the camera from windows explorer. I do get the tones telling me that something has attached itself, but not directory. I had to use the EOS viewer to get my images.

It sounds like a driver got hosed. I'll reload some of the canon image software and see if I can get the popup to activate again. If not, I go the card reader route.

    Thanks guys.

  5. Recently, I seem to have lost communications between my PC and my 20d.

Before, I would just plug in the USB cable, turn the camera on, then

it would popup an application asking if I want to download the images.

That is not happening anymore. I am not sure what application is

driving that function. I think it might be ZoomBrowser. My version is

    5.5.

Does anyone have a possible idea where I should look or what software

    I might need to reload?

    Thanks

  6. My goal was to give the .tiff file to the subject so they can look at them without any special software, and still maintain the same file size and quality as the .cr2 file. I failed to mention these are Canon .cr2 files.

I guess I am not really 100% happy with jpeg after seeing and working with RAW. My subjects are rock bands. In RAW, I can count the number of sweat beads on the persons face. In jpeg, the beads just are not there. Know what I mean?

  7. I have recently found shooting with my 20D in RAW format much better

than JPEG. I am learning that the images are much better quality and

easier to manipulate. But my use of available lighting and flash are

still lacking and some of my images are not what I was expecting. Time

    will correct that.

Question before the forum is the manipulation of RAW images and its

associated histogram. Is there an existing standard for what a

perfect images histogram is supposed to look like? I think this is

a loaded question but one worth asking. Is there a test in which one

could manipulate the RAW image histogram to get the desired results?

I seek this information because all monitors are not created equally.

Some produce darker images, some lighter images. I think the histogram

is a better tool for manipulating images that the results produced on

    the monitor.

I am also asking this because one of my other hobbies is music

electronics. More so in the design and engineering of tube power

amplifiers. The power tubes must be biased correctly to produce the

desired results of distortion free sound.

This is why I was asking if there is a model or formula for a

histogram that results in the perfectly balanced image in color,

brightness and contrast, saturation and other parameters.

Id also be interested in any publication that lends itself to this

    subject matter.

  8. I don't see a "major" financial advantage of buying refurbished instead of new. I looked at Adorama and see anywhere from 20USD to 200USD difference depending on the item. It would behoove one to get that item that has the best warranty.
  9. Seems like everything is covered here. But I must agree that the 18-55mm is a good lens. So what if it only cost a buck or so. The focus on that is lens is snot on. The 's' on snot belong there. :-) I tested it with a focus chart and I was totally elated with the results. The 18-55mm lens is a keeper.

    Hi Thierry

I looked at the link you gave. What they talk about couldn't account for the huge amount of front focus you have.Sadly it looks like you will have to return it/get it repaired /resell it

Just to be absolutally sure, did you do the focus tests with a good test chart similar to this one?

Thanks Ron, for the link to the chart. I just tested my kit lens with my 20D and it was snot on! Makes me very happy, indeed! You da man!

  11. My EOS Rebel Film camera does the same thing. I put the film in, move the leader to the spindle, close the door and the the film will advance to the end of the spool. Then as I take each photo, the film moves back into the container protecting that exposure if I accendentially open the door. I think that is a great feature.

Now, Mechelle, are you saying that when you put the film canister in the camera, move the leader to the spindle and close the door, the film will rewind back into its canister? Just need to clarify this is what is happening.
