This photo was taken in the Námaskarð geyser field in the North of
Iceland near Lake Myvatn. Two days before this there was so much
snow that this scene would have been unrecognisable. It was interesting
to see the landscape under such different conditions and I feel that it
looks more other-worldly as it is seen here as the colours are just so
bizarre and alien.
I could not have asked for better conditions on this morning. I had visited
here four times before at sunrise and sunset and each time was quite
disappointing. As the sun rose, it lit up the low cloud turning everything
a soft red colour which added to the already alien coloured landscape.
I have found that geyser areas are quite difficult to photograph as they
usually have restricted access through ropes and fences to stop tourists
walking in geologically sensitive areas - quite right too. This makes
photography difficult as one is quite restricted in composition. I found
the closest point to these bubbling mud pools and waited for the light.

A fiery sunrise on Loch Clair, Scotland in October. It was a clear
and cold morning in great contrast to the rest of my time in Scotland
which was grey and miserable but this morning's sunrise did not
dissapoint!

That should have read:
It was almost dark and I was just finishing up in Jökulsárlón and came upon this mini iceberg on the shore line. It wasn't until I picked it up and rotated it around that I saw the connection between it and the background. I lined it up as much as I could and took the photo before it was too dark to see anything.

I’d wanted to photograph this beautiful mountain on a previous visit
to Iceland but time did not allow it so on my return in November, this
was one of my main aims. Due to the fact at this time of year the sun
is not very high in the sky, almost the whole day was a sunset – this
photo was taken near mid day. I could not have asked for better
conditions and waited close to an hour for the clouds to break up and
release the beautiful light that is shown here.

It's been a while since I got out to use my camera so I headed out to the
Dorset coast. I was almost ready to give up, braving heavy rain and huge
waves and spray but for a couple of minutes, this spectacle opened up.
Many thanks for looking and please view large!

I spent a couple of days on the Dorset Coast trying out my new 5D MK2.
The weather was pretty cloudy the hole time but managed (hopefully) to
capture the drama of the location. Comments and critiques welcomed!

A lovely sunrise on the coast near the Jökulsárlón lagoon yielded
beautiful orange light behind the chunk of ice that I thought looked
like a shark fin. I was drawn to the contrasting colours in the scene.
Thanks for looking and please view large. C&C always appreciated.

A beautiful dawn over one of the highest geyser fields in the world -
El Tatio Geysers. It was extremely cold at this altitude (around
4,200m) so I was constantly warming my hands. Thanks for looking and

A beautiful start to the day, along the W circuite in Torres del
Paine, Chile. Thanks for looking and please view large!

As the sun was setting, I was
running to capture it at 4000 metres. Needless to say I was out of breath but still
managed to capture this. Thanks for looking and please view large.

Hi Neil,
Thanks for your crop. I was thinking of something like that. There seems to be too much empty space on the left side. And yes, clouds are usually more frequent but I was lucky to have great weather here (would've liked more clouds though)

Hey, thanks for all your comments, this was shot using a Canon 40D and 17-40L lens

Hi everyone,
Thanks for all the lovely comments. Larry - I can assure you the rocks were not placed by me on to the ice - this would involved wading through glacial water and attempting to attach rocks to a moving iceberg. I agree that they do look like they have been placed though. Thanks for your comment!

A beautiful sunset above the clouds in Tenerife, Spain. Finding this
spot was simple as I'd found it a little earlier but was not prepared
for such a spectacle! Thanks for looking and please view large!

Bad weather (as usual) in Torres del Paine, Chile but I don't think
that matters - it all adds to the mood. What do you think? Please
