Thanks Paul. I will work on it and see what happens. After posting I figured that it was the floating element that was different and the issue.

Thanks for the sarcasm. Very helpful. Given it is a paper weight now, a little careful exploration is entirely appropriate.
Does anyone who has a clue have an idea about my original question?

Hi,
Anyone have instructions for disassembly of the 50mm RB lens? I have one that needs internal cleaning. I have
done other lenses before, but at the front element does not come out like I think it should after taking the trim
ring off.
Thanks

It definately should fire with the revolving back on. Calvin's suggestion is a good one.

Mike has the manual here:

I have this back, and it works fine, except you don't get the full width with the RB

They do have all the same functions. Just no dark slide slot in the Pro-S back. Don't need it since the body has a holder as well.

I grew up near the Quabbin and was freaked out by the story when we learned it in school and visited. Thanks for the memories!

Glad to see these shots and the camera. I'll second that about the kids, but want to include Katz's as well in the praise!!! Makes me hungry.

Thanks much. Sorry for being so dense and not checking B&H first!

Hi,
I just got a nice RB67 and am loving it. Alas, the insert that allows use of a
standard 1/4" tripod bolt is missing. Anyone know a source for these or a
workaround (or have one they would like to share?)
Thanks

With 120 I have found it is easy to get a great 8x10 with even a cheap flat bed (B&W though).
-
A fun subject. If the digital camera can shoot in B&W it can give a good preview of the scene. I did this for a time with a digital point and shoot until I got used to thinking in B&W (and got tired of the annoyance of two cameras). You could even test the effect of filters. For tripod work it might work to devise or buy an arm for mounting two cameras. Or if using a small point and shoot, attach a shoe mount to the bottom of the point and shoot.

Very good idea to try it out. I found it maddening to switch between A lenses and a K lens and forgetting to meter with the K lens. Eventually I gave up on the K lenses. Agree with Jochen about the weird noise. Along with the huge shutter noise on my K100 it made quite a racket.
-
Shutter sticking is an issue, stiff miror lockup & ASA dial too. CLA makes sense if these are happening. Good for another 30 years. K2 is a great camera, P's best body I think other than the LX.
-
My understanding is that the 250mm can't be used with the pre-Super 23, pre-Universal since the only style bodies did not have a strong enough mount to support that monster. Other than that they go both ways.
-
If you might use movements get a Super 23 with the 3.5/100mm, if not, go for the Universal and the 100mm 2.8 (Universal allows use of Polaroid back and the 3.5 is needed for movements). Both are super solid cameras. Totally manual heavy brutes, but fun. Best entry to 6 x 9.

It may be dried grease in there. My 100/3.5 got a gritty bound up feeling (I hate that!) one day for no known reason. I tried a squirt of solvent (umm, lighter fluid) and it has been fine for several months. I have no idea if this could do harm to the lens (maybe some little plastic bit is hidden in there...)
-
I too think an exhibition would be great. Gene's found film (and all other posts) are one of the reasons I check pnet every day. An exhibition shouldn't have issues with copyright since this would be fair use. It would be really interesting to see the whole story of the camera, the film, the finder/developer (Gene that is), and the pictures themseleves.
-
Or, does anyone know of an alternative?
Thanks

Hi, I have been using my Super 23 for a few months with just
rangefinder focusing and am at the point where I am confident in all
the many things needed before clicking the shutter and want to
explore using it as a view camera. I know there are Mamyia made
options for a focusing back, but the more useful ones are to much
money for me. I have ordered a piece of Satinsnow ground glass and
was thinking about starting with a junker back (any of those
exist???) and mounting the glass on the shiny bits of film transport.
Will this give me proper focus since the ground glass will be kissing
the same metal the film kisses (I think!). Also any thoughts for a
junk back would be appreciated. Thanks

A FED 1G (I think). So you don't have to Google. See:

For those interested the Library of Congress has the entire colection (1,600 pictures) cateloged at http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/fsachtml/fsowhome.html
Looking through the pictures presents a good feel for the camera/color film combination of 60 years ago (seems mostly 35mm slide). FYI, they have posted the full scans, not just screen res JPEGs, LOC is good about this.
