1.
Hi Guys
I am just about to buy a second hand 5D body. I currently use a 5DMkII.
My question is does the Quick Control Toggle/Button (the tiny little button above the larger dial) on the back of camera work in the same way as the 5D MkII?
Can you access the menu screen from it by pressing it once?
I looked a 5D body today and the button did nothing but move an image around when in play/display mode. You could not scroll down on any menu items in the list etc - was this body faulty I am wondering.. Or is that normal?

Many thanks
2.
A last 'thank you' to all of you taking the time to reply to my thread.
I am most excited about my forthcoming trip - just a little disappointed and sad for the people affected by the typhoon in central VN where we had planned to visit. Maybe do that part of the country next time!

  3.
Ian>> Thanks!! Just when I was feeling confident and also considering travelling with my M8! :-))
Seriously - I would consider myself fairly street wise and we only intend on being in HCMC for 2 days before heading north to Hoi An etc.
I feel like the 5D is very noticeable and it still feels to me like carrying a house brick around after working mainly with Leica M's for many years. I guess I will get used to it!
Victor>> trekking in the mud isn't my scene! ;-)

  4.
Thanks guys for all your replies, I really appreciate it and you have put my mind at ease!
Everything will be insured anyway - and afterall.... it's just a camera!
Thanks for sharing your stunning images too. I am eager to photograph the tribal people of Sapa - disappointed that they now expect cashola though!
I am planning on taking the 16-35 mm and 24-105 mm. Do you think I need anything longer? - and if so which lens would you recommend?

  5.
Hi Guys
I am visitig Vietnam next month (Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Sapa Hoi An)
I have recently treated myself to a Canon 5DmkII + a few good lenses and I really eager to use them on this trip.
However, I have been a little put off after reading certain guide books as to the safety of carrying anything around with you especially in the streets of HCMC. My passion is really street photography so I know I will be compelled to use my camera in the streets... am I being naive in thinking all is good and travellers are unlikely to have their cameras snatched from them in the streets?
Regards Rowena

  6.
Thanks guys for all your advice!
I think I will stick with my old 300D and have considered the Sigma 10-20mm but was a little concerned about lens flare as the canon 10-22mm had great reviews and no problems with lens flare on wide.
Yes I have considered the lighting issue. I have a small Nikon SB-30 flash. Not sure if this will be sufficient for my needs?
--Lorne - thanks for the link. I was until recently working as a RE sales rep and have just moved state and decided to change direction - slightly!
and finally... Yes I do know where to come for encouragement and justification for buying more gear! ;-)

  7.
Hi Guys

Wanted to seek your advice on a suitable kit that won't break the bank!
I am setting up a small business shooting Real Estate images for web listings. I need a good 'basic' DSLR body and wide-zoom - I am thinking the 10-22mm EF-S lens.
I am reluctant to spend big on the kit as it will only operate as a working kit - my camera of choice and favourite 'child' is my Leica M8.
I own an old Digital Rebel (300D) model - would this be sufficient or should I invest in a newer model?
Also I am keen to keep the kit lightweight.
You advice and opinions would be much appreciated!
Regards
Rowena

  8. Yes the man's a star!

I ordered a new case for my M8 and he had it delivered to me in Australia within a 6 days!! It

was a special order one too - black with red stitching!

I've used a tan one on my M6 for a few years and the leather wears really well even when it

    does get wet.

    Bravo Luigi !!

  9. Andy

I have nothing to add on the film choice - but must share with you some info on a couple

of really interesting villages on the outskirts of Kathmandu to visit. They are right next

door to one another - BUNGAMATI and KHOKANA.

I happened to meet a local of one of these villages (who lives now in Kathmandu) and he

offered to drive us out there. All I can say is that the experience for me was truly amazing

    - these places as as they were 500 years ago!! The people were beautiful, didn't mind

being photographed, just really lovely people. If you have the time (about 30 mins drive) I

really suggest you visit. No tourist would take you there - this is the REAL Kathmandu.

    Enjoy - it's a beautiful country!

  10. Oh WOW

Haven't checked back since I posted and was so chuffed to read all your replies!

I have run two films through.. I am still a little off with focus on a few frames but loving

    the results already!

    The kit I bought came with a 35mm f2 Summicron and a 50mm f2 Summicron. Ideally I

wanted the 28mm lens but aam happy with the 35 for now! I find the 50 rather heavy... so

    haven't used it much.

I am posting a couple of snaps from my first roll.

Thanks for all your kind words of encouragement.
00Ciy9-24414484.jpg.bd07310e42786f8b8c97c2b42eeaeb7b.jpg
