  1. I am not sure about tft/lcd monitors but calibration is usually the reason why images look dark in some computers. And most people recommend using CRT monitor for serious imaging work.

    If you have photoshop, you can use Adobe Gamma Tool for calibration. In windows, it can be opened from control panel.
