  1. This is a quadruple exposure, taken this month in Sarajevo, with a Nikon

F3, on Kodak Ektrachrome 100. It's a quadruple exposure, cross-

processed. No adjustments or cropping or whatever, straight from the

camera. I'm pretty pleased with it, but of course any artistic value it might

have is a happy accident. Can it even be classed as 'a photograph'?

After a not very successful day's photography, retired to a local bar, sat

down, pointed camera up, and shot the best image of the day. (This is a

slight crop, converted to B&W in Lightroom).

Well, on one hand this is of course a pretty bad photo. But given that it was taken out

the window of a taxi, moving through Paris, and I was deliberately going for a slightly

blurred neon effect, I think it came off pretty well. Anyway, I like it.

Nikon D70, no other technical info remembered.

    Dubrovnik window

    Thanks guys, comments much appreciated.

Tom, I know what you mean, of course, but one of the reasons I was pleased with this shot was the fact that the window didn't look nearly so distorted as I expected. Your adjustment, I reckon, goes a bit too far, making the window frame look narrower at the bottom than the top.

Obviously, the flowers growing out of the window were what attracted me, but I love the texture on the surrounding wall too. The only snag is the yellowing under the windowsill.

    Cheers

    Dubrovnik window

For once, I think I got the composition of this one about right. The

window was higher up than it probably looks in the photo. From

memory, I think I used a zoom and tripod. Camera was Nikon F3, Fuji

Velvia 100, slide was pro-scanned by Peak Imaging.

Great shot. I've been to Dubrovnik a few times, and this year I was there with a Nikon D70, but never got anything as good as this. I'd be really interested to know what settings you used here - white balance, filers, etc.

  2. Just found this one while trying out various scanning options on a

new printer/scanner. Always thought the only photos I took last year

in Dubrovnik which I liked were Velvia slides, but here's a humble

print film one I really like. Must go back this year and try the same

scene on slide film. Assume the old bloke will be gone though.

  3. The more you look at this photo, the better it seems. At first I was looking at the colours, becasue I was thinking here's this guy trying Velvia slide film in the same place at the same time I was, so that was my interest. BUt the composition looks a lot better when you study it, aor I think it does. The shadow in teh bottom left balances the sky patch in the top (almost) right, and teh fact that it isnt't quite the top right tilts the balance, which tilt is matched by the line between the foreground left umbrella, through the background umbrellla, to the prominent melon slice. 'Boston' they call melon in Bosnian. They may not spell it that way but that's how it's pronounced. Did I say that out loud?
